April 15 — Inviting Ungodly Afflictions. Matthew 16:23 “But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.”

Some people warmly invite misery into life as they would a long lost friend. The way to combat this is by taking inventory of what needs to be tossed. Watch for complacency in accepting unfounded accusations against the Lord. Not being on guard can lead to disaster, regardless of how charming the messenger may be. Remember, even Jesus had to stand up against those closest to Him.
Remind the Mormon you know that neither God’s gospel, nor His church, needed restoring. He already provided the perfect person to build His kingdom. Mr. Uchtdorf’s seemingly benign comment at General Conference was a diversion to draw people away from Jesus, and invite untold afflictions to one’s soul.
