How Mormonism Attacks Christianity

How Mormonism Attacks Christianity

“The story of the Bible’s persecution is an arresting one. During the first three centuries of the Christian era the Roman Emperors sought to destroy God’s Word. One of them, named Diocletian, believed that he had succeeded. He had slain so many Christians and destroyed so many Bibles, that when the lovers of the Bible remained quiet for a season and kept in hiding, he imagined that he had made an end of the Scriptures. So elated was he at this achievement, he ordered a medal to be struck inscribed with the words, “The Christian religion is destroyed and the worship of the gods restored.” One wonders what that emperor would think if he returned to this earth today and found that more had been written about the Bible than about any other thousand books put together, and that the Bible which enshrines the Christian faith is now translated into more than four hundred languages and is being sent out to every part of the earth!” – A.W. Pink, The Divine Inspiration of the Bible

A few years ago I compiled a list of LDS quotes that contain disparaging remarks about Christianity. Since that time I’ve noticed there were many more worthy of being included in my list so I’ve updated it and placed it on the front page sidebar of the blog for easy access.

In light of the Church’s new motives in wanting members to proselytize on the internet I feel it’s our duty as Christians to be prepared in knowing what we’re up against and for us to warn our friends and neighbors. With this latest gig of theirs it’s like they’re right in the living rooms of America and the world.

Below you’ll see my original article with the updated quotes. You’ll notice their attitude towards the body of Christ isn’t exactly loving and it wasn’t just one or two church authorities’ comments made a long time ago – this continues even today.

On Palm Sunday of ‘93 my entire life changed in two ways by simply attending a church service with a Christian friend of mine here in the Seattle area.

The biggest change of course was because of the salvation I received from the Lord.  With the understanding I am not brushing over that lightly, the focus of this article is to point out the other dramatic change.  Before I left that little church the Lord impressed it upon my heart to go back up to the altar and repent for the hatred I had held in my heart towards Christians for 30 years.

I cannot speak specifically for other ex-Mormons or Mormons so hear me out when I say that I am speaking for myself only and about the doctrines of the Mormon Church.  The one thing I do know is how I felt towards “outsiders” and what I was taught as a sixth generation Mormon from Utah.

In a nutshell I would rather spit on (which I did once) or drive over a Christian than look at them.  I hated them, but didn’t know why.  I had also decided in my hard heart that I couldn’t leave the Mormon Church even with my boat-load of doubts because I was a lot of things, but I certainly didn’t want to be a whore.  Anything but that!

Now to make things even more confusing for me and everyone else, I loved being around the Christians I had come to personally know throughout my travels.  I honestly felt something different while in their presence, but couldn’t articulate why.  Hindsight is 20/20 of course and now I know it was the presence of the Holy Spirit that I had encountered!

Fast forward almost seventeen years from the time I repented for my hatred towards Christianity and here I am at the opposite end of the spectrum.  People seem to think that LAM is “anti-Mormon” and out to bash and demean people in the Mormon Church.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Yeah, we’re anti-Mormonism, but not anti-Mormon.  I remember the confusion and what it felt like.  I truly believe the Lord reminds me of my hatred for the body of Christ to keep me humble and keep my desire to help the Mormons alive.

To begin our new year LAM received a few interesting e-mails from people who wanted to know why we would go about attacking someone of another faith.  Here is one of those notes:

Where do you get your material?  While I may not be (in any way/shape/or form) a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints…I still hate deliberate fallacies.  I would be harder pressed to compliment you on your accuracies in this page then to berate you for your inaccuracies.  I too, take a great MANY issues with the “mormon church”.  I , however, do not believe that a loving father in heaven would justify me in spewing hatred about something that either A) I don’t understand at ALL or B) I have to lie about to form any level of credulity in my outlandish claims.  Just as quick hits on some of your spewed hatred: You attack the mormons for having the belief that the first presidency will not be popular.  You do so with the justification that somehow saying they won’t be popular equates to them hating other Christians.  That’s not even a logical leap…that’s a logical cannon shot.  Not to mention you do so in the midst of this whole mormon bashing campaign site of yours.  All in all…I guess my main thesis is that while I’m not necessarily arguing the premise that maybe their church might be a little off.  Nor am I arguing the premise that they are in need of spiritual guidance.  I AM, however, arguing that you might want to do a little more ACTUAL research before making such outlandish and ridiculous accusations.  They have enough wrong with their past and doctrines that you can ACTUALLY hit on…you don’t need to attack the falsehoods you’re throwing out there.  The problem you’re creating is that you’re “arming” your fellow christians with weapons of paper mache because when they use this information as a tool to reach out to the mormon community they will just be seen as ignorant hate-mongers lashing out at what they don’t understand.  To be perceived as a christian with legitimate concern for the well-being of their souls you need ACTUAL facts…not twisted ones.  Good starting point…but you have a LONG way to go.

First of all, I may need to repent of something today or even tomorrow, but proclaiming the truth about Mormonism is not one of the reasons why.  Secondly, where in the Bible did Jesus ever repent about calling out the lies of the Pharisees?

     I am actually wondering if this person is a Mormon.  Differences within the body of Christ are generally accepted knowing that within those parameters there are basic truths we hold fast to.  Those basic truths would include;

Jesus is the only way to true salvation, Acts 4:12.

Jesus is God incarnate, John 1:1, 14.

He died on the cross for our sins to redeem mankind, Romans 5:1.

God raised His Son on the 3rd day, Romans 5:18, 1 Corinthians 15:42-44.

We are saved by grace through faith, Ephesians 2:8-9.

Sadly enough out of the five items listed, the LDS Church only believes in one of the above tenets; the resurrection of Jesus on the third day.  This e-mailer has wrongly assumed that our information is incorrect and accusatory.  I admit it is accusatory to some (1 Corinthians 1:18), but I strongly disagree it’s wrong.  Where on our website is there a lie?

All information on our site comes directly from the LDS Church.

     If there is anything on this website that is factually incorrect I will pull it immediately and offer a public apology – guaranteed.  You don’t have to like my approach or the reasons why I publish these articles and that’s okay by me, I understand fully.  If, however, you want to talk about the “attack of Mormonism” by me (a member of the body of Christ), might I suggest reading any of the articles on the site to see my true intention in addition to taking a another look at Jude 1:3-4;

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. 4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Joseph Smith and company have gone out of their way for almost 180 years to steal the salvation of my family and friends.  My parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins, brothers, step-parents, and step-siblings have traded the truth for a lie and worshipped the creature instead of The Creator as Paul said in Romans 1:20-25.  And that fact alone absolutely breaks my heart every day of my life.

The LDS Church is quick to cry out they are being persecuted without even blinking an eye at the attack they’ve made against the body of Christ, let alone Jesus Himself.  Remember, I lived that lie for 30 years.

If we look in the annals of history we see many examples of how people have hated scripture.  From King Jehoiakim in Judah (Jeremiah 36:22-27) who burned the scrolls, to the emperor Diocletian who massacred thousands of Christians and burned scripture, and yes, even Joseph Smith who tried to disseminate the word of God by lying about its validity; there will always be those who hate God and His message.

The entire precept of Mormonism was given birth to in 1820 through the overactive imagination of an uneducated fourteen year old farm boy from upstate New York by the name of Joseph Smith.  According to Smith he went to a grove of trees to pray in order to ask God which church he should join.  History of the Church 1:5-6.

He emphatically held to the story that God told him to join none of them as they were all the wrong.  Joseph Smith Testimony 1:19.  This is a teaching the LDS Church still holds to today.  Let’s take a look at what Smith and other LDS leaders have said about the Christian church.  Below are direct quotes showing the disdain Mormons have toward the Christians and believe me when I say we haven’t even scratched the surface.

The hatred they hold towards Christianity is something that isn’t made up in my imagination and manifests itself in a prideful arrogance of superiority.  Many of the Mormons I’ve met have this sinful nature in them and it always makes me so very sad for them.

Our prayer as always is to see each and every Mormon come to a saving knowledge of Christ Jesus and Him crucified; nothing short of that will do.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle Grim

1 Cor. 1:18  …

PS:  We found out through correspondence with the person who e-mailed that he is indeed a Mormon.  After a few e-mail exchanges and outright hateful accusations with Melissa he admitted to her that he is LDS.  Whatever happened to telling the truth and loving our brothers and sisters in Christ?  1 John 2:9, 18-22, 3:14-15.

LDS Scripture

Devil the Founder of Abominable Church

1 Nephi 13:5-6; “And the angel said unto me: Behold the formation of a church which is most abominable above all other churches, which slayeth the saints of God, yea, and tortureth them and bindeth them down, and yoketh them with a yoke of iron, and bringeth them down into captivity. 6 And it came to pass that I beheld this great and abominable church; and I saw the devil that he was the founder of it.”

Christianity, Mother of Harlots

1 Nephi 13:26; “And after they go forth by the hand of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, from the Jews unto the Gentiles, thou seest the formation of that great and abominable church, which is most abominable above all other churches; for behold, they have taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and most precious; and also many covenants of the Lord have they taken away.”

Christianity is Whore of Babylon

1 Nephi 14:10; “And he said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth.”

Christianity in Obscurity & Darkness

Doctrines & Covenants 1:30; “And also those to whom these commandments were given, might have power to lay the foundation of this church, and to bring it forth out of obscurity and out of darkness, the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I, the Lord, am well pleased, speaking unto the church collectively and not individually.”

Gross Darkness Covers Minds of People

Doctrine & Covenants 112:23; “Verily, verily, I say unto you, darkness covereth the earth, and gross darkness the minds of the people, and all flesh has become corrupt before my face.”

Sermons & Books Written by LDS Authorities

No Priesthood, No Kingdom of God

Aaronic Priesthood, pg. 116; “There must be power; that is, there must be priesthood. Where God’s power is manifest, there is the church and kingdom of God on earth. Where his power is not found, there the church and kingdom is not. Therefore, where the priesthood is, there is the church and kingdom of God.” – Oscar McConkie

Christian Cross is Repugnant and Poor Taste

Answers to Gospel Questions 4:17; “To many, like the writer, such a custom is repugnant and contrary to the true worship of our Redeemer. Why should we bow down before a cross or use it as a symbol? Because our Savior died on the cross, the wearing of crosses is to most Latter-day Saints in very poor taste and inconsistent to our worship.” – Joseph Fielding Smith, 10th Prophet

Powers of Darkness over Christianity

Articles of Faith, pg. 181; “A self-suggesting interpretation of history indicates that there has been a great departure from the way of salvation as laid down by the Savior, a universal apostasy from the Church of Christ. Scarcely had the Church been organized by the Savior, whose name it bears, before the powers of darkness arrayed themselves for conflict with the organized body.” – James Talmage – 1984

Abominable Church Founded by the Devil

Bruce McConkie Public Discourse on the Joseph Smith Translation: The Restoration of Plain and Precious Things, pgs. 12-14; “…the Bible it was not and is not so.  It is now in the hands of intellectuals and unbelievers…And it once was in the sole and exclusive care and custody of an abominable organization, founded by the devil himself, likened prophetically unto a great whore, whose great aim and purpose was to destroy the souls of men in the name of religion…Where the Bible is concerned, things get a little sticky. Of course we believe it—always specifying the King James Version—but there is the reservation about parts not being translated correctly.” – Monte S. Nyman, Charles D. Tate, Jr., 1985

Mormonism the Way, the Truth & the Life

Conference Report, April 1961, pg. 119; “This Church is the standard which Isaiah said the Lord would set up for the people in the latter days. This Church was given to be a light to the world and to be a standard for God’s people and for the Gentiles to seek to. This Church is the ensign on the mountain spoken of by the Old Testament prophets. It is the way, the truth, and the life.” – Marion Romney

Monogamy Established by Religious Robbers

Deseret News, August 6, 1862; “Monogamy, or restrictions by law to one wife, is no part of the economy of heaven among men. Such a system was commenced by the founders of the Roman empire….Rome became the mistress of the world, and introduced this order of monogamy wherever her sway was acknowledged. Thus this monogamic order of marriage, so esteemed by modern Christians as a holy sacrament and divine institution, is nothing but a system established by a set of robbers….” – Brigham Young

Generations Lived without Gospel

Discourses of Brigham Young, pg. 107; “The Restoration—Generations have come and gone without the privilege of hearing the sound of the Gospel, which has come to you through Joseph Smith—that was revealed to him from heaven by angels and visions. We have the Gospel and the keys of the holy Priesthood. 7:173.”

Non-Mormons Ripening for Damnation

Discourses of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 220; “Those Who Reject the Gospel to Be Damned [Observe]…Christendom at the present day, and where are they, with all their boasted religion, piety, and sacredness while at the same time they are crying out against prophets, apostles, angels, revelations, prophesying and visions, etc. Why, they are just ripening for the damnation of hell. They will be damned…Yes, I say, such will be damned, with all their professed godliness. (HC 5:389.)”

Christianity Shuts Up God

Discourses of Wilford Woodruff, pg 15; “But the gospel of modern Christendom shuts up the Lord, and stops all communications with Him. I want nothing to do with such a gospel, I would rather prefer the gospel of the dark ages, so called.”

Christianity is Church of the Devil

Doctrinal New Testament Commentary, 3:551; “The church of the devil is the world…It is every church except the true church, whether parading under a Christian or a pagan banner. As Moroni will say in a later era of Nephite history, and as we shall ascertain in our evaluation of Rev. 18:1–24, it is ‘secret combinations,’ oath-bound societies, and the great world force of Godless communism. (Ether 8:14–26.)”. – Elder Bruce R. McConkie, 1973

God’s Covenant Withdrawn

Doctrines of Salvation 1:155; “Moreover, there have been times when it has been necessary for covenants to be withdrawn, and man has been left to grope in spiritual darkness without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and without the saving grace of the ordinances and covenants of the gospel.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

Christianity Veiled in Paganism

Doctrines of Salvation 3:283; “For hundreds of years the world was wrapped in a veil of spiritual darkness, until there was not one fundamental truth belonging to the plan of salvation that was not, in the year 1820, so obscured by false tradition and ceremonies, borrowed from paganism, as to make it unrecognizable; or else it was entirely denied. By heavenly direction and command of our Lord Jesus Christ, Joseph Smith restored all these principles in their primitive beauty and power.” – Joseph Fielding Smith, 1954

Priests Receive Portion with Satan

Elder’s Journal, Vol. 1, No. 4, August 1838, pg. 60; “…all the priests who adhere to the sectarian religions of the day with all their followers, without one exception, receive their portion with the devil and his angels.” – Prophet Joseph Smith

Salvation not Authorized Outside Christianity

Encyclopedia of Joseph Smith’s Teachings, pg. 56; “We believe that no man can administer salvation through the gospel, to the souls of men, in the name of Jesus Christ, except he is authorized from God…”

All Existing Churches Gone Astray

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg 57; “Joseph Smith in his first vision (1820) was told by Christ that all existing churches had gone astray, both in their teachings and in their practice, although they had “a form of godliness” (JS-H 1:18-19). Thus it was necessary for a “restoration” of the gospel to take place.”

Other Denominations Incomplete

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 270; “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not see itself as one Christian denomination among many, but rather as God’s latter-day restoration of the fulness of Christian faith and practice…Other forms of Christianity…are viewed as incomplete, lacking the authority of the priesthood of God, the temple ordinances, the comprehensive understanding of the Plan of Salvation, and the nonparadoxical understanding of the Godhead.”

Christian & Mormon Dogmas

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 271; “Traditional Christianity often defines Christian affiliation as the acceptance of certain beliefs and dogmas. Because Latter-day Saints do not accept certain extrascriptural dogmas-especially those bearing the philosophical overlay of much post-New Testament Christian teaching-some in other churches feel that Latter-day Saints cannot be Christian. They are not “orthodox” in this sense. But for the Mormon, right beliefs (orthodoxy) and right behaviors (orthopraxy) are those congruent with the revealed mind and will of the Lord. Some of the misunderstandings between traditional communities and the Latter-day Saints arise from this issue: whether Christians must first believe traditional, especially credal, dogmas in order to live “correct Christian lives.””

Christians Worship Different Jesus

Ensign, May 1977, pg 26; “It is true that many of the Christian churches worship a different Jesus Christ than is worshipped by the Mormons or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” – LDS Quorum of the Seventy member Bernard P. Brockbank

Christianity Doesn’t Hold Keys of the Kingdom

Ensign, December 1985, pg. 25; “All historical Christian churches agree that revelation for the direction of the church ceased with the last of the apostles,” one author has written. History shows, in fact, that after the first century, church leaders, in order to decide important issues, could not (and did not) appeal to heaven for authoritative direction because they did not possess the keys of the kingdom.” – Andrew C. Skinner

Christianity: Satan Sits in Place of God

Ensign, “Early Signs of Apostasy”, December 1984, pg 9; “God is not at its head, making that church [i.e., Christianity] – following the appearance in it of Satan – no longer the church of God. To say that Satan sits in the place of God in Christianity after the time of the apostles is not to say that all that is in it is Satanic.” – Kent P. Jackson

Christianity Lost its Anchor and Disappeared

Ensign, The Restoration and Faith, Jan. 2006, pgs 34-35; “In a surprisingly short time, the [ancient] Church disassembled. Without Apostles, the Church lost its anchor and began to drift on every wind of doctrine. Spiritual gifts disappeared, revelations ceased, the keys to the priesthood were lost, ordinances changed. Ultimately, the purity of our Lord’s gospel began to meld with other doctrines, beliefs, and practices. Philosophies and political influences began to infiltrate and transform the Church.” – Joseph B. Wirthlin

Christian Churches Struggle to Fill Clergy Roles

Ensign, “The Weak and the Simple of the Church”, Nov. 2007, 6-7; “Everything that is done in the Church… -is done by ordinary members, the ‘weak things of the world.’
“We see in the Christian churches their struggle to fill the need for clergy. We do not have that problem. Once the gospel is preached and the Church is organized, there is an inexhaustible supply of faithful brothers and sisters who have that testimony and are willing to answer the call to serve. They commit themselves to the work of the Lord and live the standards required of them.” – Boyd K. Packer

Mormons Reject Christianity

Ensign, “My Words . . . Never Cease”, May 2008, pg 91; “Some Christians, in large measure because of their genuine love for the Bible, have declared that there can be no more authorized scripture beyond the Bible. In thus pronouncing the canon of revelation closed, our friends in some other faiths shut the door on divine expression that we in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hold dear: the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, the Pearl of Great Price, and the ongoing guidance received by God’s anointed prophets and apostles. Imputing no ill will to those who take such a position, nevertheless we respectfully but resolutely reject such an unscriptural characterization of true Christianity.” – Jeffrey R. Holland

Respect Other Christian Churches

Ensign, May 2009, pg. 37; “Our leaders have consistently counseled us ‘to live with respect and appreciation for those not of our faith. There is so great a need for civility and mutual respect among those of differing beliefs and philosophies’ (Gordon B. Hinckley, “This Is the Work of the Master,” Ensign, May 1995, 71). “It is equally important that we be loving and kind to members of our own faith, regardless of their level of commitment or activity.” – Quentin L. Cook

Mormon Prophets Sole Spokesman for God

Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet, #1; “The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.” – Ezra Taft Benson, February 26, 1980

LDS Only Legitimate Church

Gospel Doctrine, pg. 137; “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is no partisan Church. It is not a sect. It is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is the only one today existing in the world that can and does legitimately bear the name of Jesus Christ and his divine authority.” – Joseph F. Smith 6th President of LDS Church, 1919

True Christianity not on Earth for Centuries

Gospel Ideals, pg. 66; “TRUE CHRISTIANITY. True Christianity—by which I mean the sublime truths of life as taught by the Savior of men, and his authorized Church—had not been upon the earth for many centuries. That organization men rejected by killing the servants whom Christ authorized to preach his gospel. Following their death, men substituted for the heaven-inspired Church an organization which gave glittering promises of truth and salvation…” – David O. McKay 9th President of LDS Church, 1953

Christians couldn’t Restore  Gospel

Gospel Kingdom, pgs 42-43; “Hence, one introduced and taught one principle, and another introduced and taught another; and they were split up and divided, and the spirit of antagonism was found at times among them; and with all their desires to do good, they did not and could not restore the gospel of the Son of God.” – John Taylor 3rd president of LDS Church

Pagan Beliefs of Roman Christianity

Gospel Principles, pg. 90; “Soon pagan beliefs dominated the thinking of those called Christians. The Roman emperor adopted this false Christianity as the state religion. This church was very different from the church Jesus organized. It taught that God was a being without form or substance.

LDS Church Established by Jesus

Gospel Standards, pg. 98; “Inasmuch as the Church to which you and I belong is the Church of Jesus Christ, established by the Savior Himself through the instrumentality of the Prophet Joseph Smith, I do not think we need to worry about being admitted into the various Christian denominations. The one thing that you and I need to worry about, and the only thing, is with regard to keeping the commandments of the Lord, living our religion as Latter-day Saints.—CR, October, 1931: 4-5.” – Heber J. Grant

Two Churches Only: Lamb of God & Babylon

Gospel Truth, pg. 324; “After the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized, there were only two churches upon the earth. They were known respectively as the Church of the Lamb of God and Babylon. The various organizations which are called churches throughout Christendom, though differing in their creeds and organizations, have one common origin. They all belong to Babylon.” – George Q. Cannon

Christians Persecute True Religion

Gospel Truth, pg 333; “Where false religion prevails, men persecute and oppress those who are not of their own faith; they are frequently fierce, cruel, pitiless and do not feel content unless they are waging war against those who possess pure religion or who are striving to obtain a knowledge of it. The history of false religion is the history of crime and the most dreadful and shocking persecutions of men by their fellows.” – George Q. Cannon

Christianity Ceased to Exist

Great Apostasy, pgs 18-19; “We affirm that with the passing of the so-called apostolic age the Church gradually drifted into a condition of apostasy, whereby succession in the priesthood was broken; and that the Church…ceased to exist.” – James E. Talmage

Nothing Less than Complete Apostasy Warrants Mormonism

History of the Church, v. 1, p. xl; “Nothing less than a complete apostasy from the Christian religion would warrant the establishment of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” – Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr.

All Churches Corrupt

History of the Church 1:5-6; “No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right—and which I should join. I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong, and the personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in His sight: that those professors were all corrupt; that “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”

Apostasy Lasted for Centuries

Introduction to the Gospel, pg. 314; “Men had made, we believe, fundamental changes in the doctrines, purposes, and practices of the Pristine Gospel and Church. There had been an apostasy, or a falling away from the true character of Christ’s teachings in the centuries which followed the Apostolic age.” – Lowell L. Bennion, 1955

Heaven Silent for 17 Centuries

Jesus the Christ, pg. 692; “For over seventeen hundred years on the eastern hemisphere, and for more than fourteen centuries on the western, there appears to have been silence between the heavens and the earth…The passing of the apostles was followed by the rapid development of a universal apostasy as had been foreseen and predicted.” – James Talmage, 1983

John Taylor: Christian Gospel is Perversion

Taylor said  ‘…Jesus came to earth to do away with the Law…’ and  ‘Jesus came to introduce the gospel that their fathers lost because of transgression…’.

Where does it say that in the Bible???

Christian Denominations is Devilism

Journal of Discourses 2:105; “It is this union among those who are faithful “Mormons” that makes the world afraid of us; they fear us because we differ from the world. In the United States and in the old countries, they are divided into six or seven hundred different religious denominations, all disagreeing with each other; besides political and a thousand other kinds of divisions and differences, such as whiggery, democratism, socialism, which, in short, may all be summed up under the term, Devilism.”” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, August 13, 1853

Christianity Lies

Journal of Discourses 2:106; “Jesus says, “Except ye are one, ye are not mine.” And yet the Christian world take a course to justify themselves in division, in strife, in animosity, in quarreling, in envy, in jealousy, in war and bloodshed. And yet they say they are one: I say THEY LIE. A man that says it, lies to me, and he lies to God.” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, August 13, 1853

Christianity non-Existent Until Joe Smith

Journal of Discourses 2:192; “…if we search throughout the earth at this day, we cannot find a system existing that has scarcely any resemblance to the example laid down by Christ and the Apostles.” – Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, February 25, 1855

World Enveloped in Darkness for 1,400 Years

Journal of Discourses 2:196-197; “I do not wish to be understood that we are now living in a dark age of the world, but for the last fourteen hundred years the world have been enveloped in darkness, in which wickedness has ruled, and the powers of darkness have prevailed among the children of men, and the nations have been bound down by false traditions, and incorrect principles…” – Wilford Woodruff, February 25, 1855, Salt Lake City

Islam Taught Truth, Christians Did Not

Journal of Discourses 3:39; “…where Mahometanism prevailed, it taught and established one truth at least, viz., the true and living God, and so far as this went, it did preserve people from worshipping idols. And had the crescent waved on the tower of London, or on the church of St. Paul, instead of the cross, and had the Mahometan religion been enforced instead of the Roman religion that was enforced for a series of generations, and had tradition riveted what the sword enforced, then that nation and the surrounding nations would have been worshippers of one true God instead of idols….” –Parley P. Pratt, Salt Lake City, September 23, 1855

Muslim Morals Better than Christians

Journal of Discourses 3:41; “Though Mahometan institutions are corrupt enough, and need reforming by the Gospel, I am inclined to think, upon the whole, leaving out the corruptions of men in high places among them, that they have better morals and better institutions than many Christian nations and in many localities there have been high standards of morals.” – Parley Pratt, September 23, 1855, Salt Lake City

Christians can’t Discern Truth from Error

Journal of Discourses 3:92; “Who is there that can know the things of God; who can discern the truth from the error? Where is the man; where are the people now in the world that can do it? They do not exist.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, August 8, 1852

Christian Jesus like a Mule – Half Horse, Half Ass

Journal of Discourses 4:217; “I have frequently thought of mules, which you know are half horse and half ass, when reflecting upon the representations made by those divines. I have heard sectarian priests undertake to tell the character of the Son of God, and they make him half of one species and half of another, and I could not avoid thinking at once of the mule, which is the most hateful creature that ever was made, I believe. You will excuse me, but I have thus thought many a time.” – Brigham Young, February 8, 1857, Salt Lake City

Christians Groveling in Darkness

Journal of Discourses 5:73-74; “The Christian world, I discovered, was like the captain and crew of a vessel on the ocean without a compass, and tossed to and fro whithersoever the wind listed to blow them. When the light came to me, I saw that all the so-called Christian world was grovelling in darkness.” – Brigham Young, July 26, 1857, Salt Lake City

Christians are Whoremasters

Journal of Discourses 5:90; “Christians—those poor, miserable priests brother Brigham was speaking about—some of them are the biggest whoremasters there are on the earth, and at the same time preaching righteousness to the children of men. The poor devils, they could not get up here and preach an oral discourse, to save themselves from hell; they are preaching their fathers’ sermons—preaching sermons that were written a hundred years before they were born.” – Heber C. Kimball, July 26, 1857, Salt Lake City, Utah

Christians Ignorant as Brute Beasts

Journal of Discourses 6:25; “What! are Christians ignorant? Yes, as ignorant of the things of God as the brute beast.” – John Taylor, Salt Lake City, November 1, 1857

Christians Consented to Kill Joseph Smith

Journal of Discourses 6:130; “J247We are here in the mountains a thousand miles from the Christian world—that is, the portion of the Christian world that we have come from, even the United States. I suppose there are as many as one or two hundred, and perhaps three hundred different Christian denominations; and every one of them differs, and every one of them is at variance one with the other; and every one of them, although they are at variance with one another, were all agreed in killing or in consenting to the death of Joseph Smith, either directly or indirectly.” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, December 20, 1857

Christianity a Perfect Pack of Nonsense

Journal of Discourses 6:167; “There is not nation now that acknowledges that hand of God; there is not a king, potentate, nor ruler that acknowledges his jurisdiction. We talk about Christianity, but it is a perfect pack of nonsense…Myself and hundreds of the Elders around me have seen its pomp, parade, and glory; and what is it? It is a sounding brass and a tinkling symbol; it is as corrupt as hell; and the Devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work that the Christianity of the nineteenth century.” – John Taylor, January 17, 1858, Salt Lake City

Christianity Hatched in Hell

Journal of Discourses 6:176; “Brother Taylor has just said that the religions of the day were hatched in hell. The eggs were laid in hell, hatched on its borders, and then kicked on to the earth.” – Brigham Young, January 17, 1858, Salt Lake City

Christians have no Knowledge of God

Journal of Discourses 6:347; “The Christians of the day have no knowledge of God, of godliness, of eternity, of the worlds that are, that have been and that are coming forth. There are myriads of people pertaining to this earth who will come up and receive a glory according to their capacity.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, July 31, 1859

Christians Shrouded in Darkness

Journal of Discourses 7:333; “J345The people called Christians are shrouded in ignorance, and read the Scriptures with darkened understandings.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 8, 1859

Christians are Heathens

Journal of Discourses 8:171, 199; “The Christian world, so called, are heathens as to their knowledge of the salvation of God. If those nations that we call heathen were civilized as we are, intelligent as we are, we would not call them heathen… With regard to true theology, a more ignorant people never lived than the present so-called Christian world.” – Brigham Young, October 7, 1860, Salt Lake City

Anti-Christ are Those not Confessing Joseph Smith

Journal of Discourses 8:177; “…I will now give my scripture—”Whosoever confesseth that Joseph Smith was sent of God to reveal the holy Gospel to the children of men, and lay the foundation for gathering Israel, and building up the kingdom of God on the earth, that spirit of God; and every spirit that does not confess that God has sent Joseph Smith, and revealed the everlasting Gospel to and through him, is of Anti-christ…” – Brigham Young, September 9, 1860, Salt Lake City

Christianity in Dense Darkness

Journal of Discourses 8:209; “The Devil has the mastery of the earth: he has corrupted it, and has corrupted the children of men. He has led them in evil until they are almost entirely ruined, and are so far from God that they neither know Him nor his influence, and have almost lost sight of everything that pertains to eternity. This darkness is more prevalent, more dense, among the people of Christendom, than it is among the heathen. They have lost sight of all that is great and glorious—of all principles that pertain to life eternal.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 14, 1860

No Authority in Christiandom

Journal of Discourses 10:127; “Where shall we look for the true order or authority of God? It cannot be found in any nation of Christendom.” – John Taylor, March 1, 1863, Salt Lake City

Christians not True Christians

Journal of Discourses 10:230-231; “Should you ask why we differ from other Christians, as they are called, it is simply because they are not Christians as the New Testament defines Christianity.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, July 8, 1863

Christians Like a Ship without Rudder

Journal of Discourses 10:266; “…the professing Christian world are like a ship upon a boisterous ocean without rudder, compass, or pilot, and are tossed hither and thither by every wind of doctrine.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 6, 1863

Salvation not Found in Christianity

Journal of Discourses 12:173; “We declare it to all the inhabitants of the earth from the valleys in the tops of these mountains that we are the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—not a church but the church—and we have the doctrine of life and salvation for all the honest-in-heart in all the world. Who else has got it? Is it to be found in the creeds of Christendom? It is not.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, March 29, 1868

Christians Know Nothing of God

Journal of Discourses 13:225-226; “What does the Christian world know about God? Nothing; yet these very men assume the right and power to tell others what they shall and what they shall not believe in.” – John Taylor, Salt Lake City, May 6, 1870

Paganism Grafted into Christianity

Journal of Discourses 12:44; “Notwithstanding, the disciples of Jesus, excepting John the Revelator, suffered ignominious deaths, they sowed the seed of the Gospel among, and conferred the Priesthood upon men, which remained for several generations upon the earth, but the time came when Paganism was engrafted into Christianity, and at last Christianity was converted into Paganism…” – Joseph F. Smith, Logan, Utah, February 6, 1881

No Salvation in Christianity

Journal of Discourses 12:173; “We declare it to all the inhabitants of the earth from the valleys in the tops of these mountains that we are the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—not a church but the church—and we have the doctrine of life and salvation for all the honest-in-heart in all the world. Who else has got it? Is it to be found in the creeds of Christendom? It is not.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, March 29, 1868

Christians Confused & Divided

Journal of Discourses 12:366; “Visit the cities of Christendom outside of this Territory, and what do you see? Confusion and division… These are the kinds of faiths that exist in Christendom at the present time, and they are all, professedly, based upon the Scriptures, forgetting that portion of Paul’s epistle which I quoted to you—“though we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you let him be accursed”…” – George Q. Cannon, Salt Lake City, January 31, 1869

John Taylor: Christian Gospel is Perversion

Journal of Discourses 13:15-19; “Go to the Christians and they have one God, but he has neither body, parts, nor passions; his presence is everywhere, but he exists nowhere. They have never heard nor seen him, and they do not know anybody who ever did, not even their ministers, whom, they claim, are sent of God. They are equally as ignorant in relation to their own existence and the ends of their creation. They say they are going to Heaven, but all they can tell you about it is that it is beyond the bounds of time and space.

This kind of doctrine does not suit me…that which is called the Gospel in the Christian world is not the Gospel, but a perversion of it. When Jesus came he came to do away with the law and to introduce the Gospel that their fathers had lost because of transgression. … Why, these Christians, so called, cannot trust their God in anything.” – John Taylor, Salt Lake City, March 14, 1869

Christians Know Nothing of God

Journal of Discourses 13:225-226; “What does the Christian world know about God? Nothing; yet these very men assume the right and power to tell others what they shall and what they shall not believe in.” – John Taylor, May 6, 1870, Salt Lake City

Christians Seek Muttering Spirits

Journal of Discourses 14:74; “What is the condition of the Christian world to-day? They are seeking after mischievous muttering spirits; they are seeking to know something that is not true, and to establish that which no true philosophy on earth will establish.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, August 7, 1870

This Class of Men Unite with Paganism

Journal of Discourses 14:346; “This class of men, calling themselves Christian, uniting with the various forms of the pagan religion, adopting many of their ceremonies and institutions, became very popular, and finally some of the pagans embraced Christianity and were placed, as it were, upon the throne, and what they termed Christianity became very popular indeed. How long has this order of things existed, this dreadful apostacy, this class of people that pronounced themselves Zion, or Christians, without any of the characteristics of Zion? It has existed for some sixteen or seventeen centuries.” – Orson Pratt, March 10, 1872, Salt Lake City

666 Denominations of Protestants

Journal of Discourses 14:347-348; “Go to all these 666 different Protestant denominations that have come out from the mother Church, and inquire of them, Have you inspired men among you? and their united voice is that God speaks no more in our day… We enquire, “What have you?” “Oh we have 666 different denominations and we have surnamed ourselves Christians. We are Bible Christians.” How mistaken they are…Bible Christians could converse with the Lord, and oftentimes beheld the face of Jesus…but inquire for these characteristics among these 666 different Christian denominations and they will tell you they are all gone, they have not any of them amongst them. Now suppose we take their word for it! I do, I really believe them. I think they tell the truth when they say they have no inspired men.” – Orson Pratt, March 10, 1872

Christians are Infidels

Journal of Discourses 16:46; “The Christian world is infidel to the truth in a great degree.” – Brigham Young, Ogden, Utah, May 18, 1873

Christians Reject Jesus & LDS, the Best People on Earth

Journal of Discourses 16:110-111; “…we say, without boasting a bit, that we are the best people there is. This is my decision. I say that we are the best people there is upon the earth, and we have nothing to boast of, not the least in the world. Who is there that hearkens to the will of God, or heeds his voice? Who is there, on the face of the whole earth, outside of this people, who know the mind and will of God, or that seek to do his will? …they would not receive Jesus and his Apostles in this day, with all their boasted professions of love for his name and doctrine. If they would receive Jesus they would receive an Elder of this Church when sent to preach the Gospel to them; if they had been willing to receive an apostle of Jesus Christ, they would have received your humble servant. But this we need not talk about.” – Brigham Young, Logan, Utah, June 27, 1873

Baptisms & Marriages Illegal Outside Mormonism

Journal of Discourses 16:175; “I said their baptisms are illegal. Now let me go a little further, and say that the ordinance of marriage is illegal among all people, nations and tongues, unless administered by a man appointed by new revelation from God to join the male and female as husband and wife.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, August 31, 1873

Children Born Outside Temple Ordinances are Bastards

Journal of Discourses 17:153; “I have heard that some of them, perhaps through a want of understanding of the laws of God, have suffered themselves to be married by the civil law—…Are children born of such marriages your legal sons and daughters in the sight of heaven? Not at all; they are in one sense bastards.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, July 19, 1874

Future Children in Illegal Marriages Outside Temple are Bastards

Journal of Discourses 17:227; “Has he joined them together? No, and the marriage is illegal, and, in the sight of heaven, the children springing from such a marriage are bastards.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, October 7, 1874

Christianity Non-existent for Seventeen Centuries

Journal of Discourses 17:310; “Perhaps some may inquire—”Do you believe, then, that the Christian Church has been so overcome that it has not existed on the earth?” That is what we believe, that is one of the principles taught by this people during the last forty-four years of the existence of this Church.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, February 28, 1875

What Makes a Christian Church Christian?

Journal of Discourses 18:44; “If we can find a church that has the gifts and the signs spoken of by the New Testament, we can find true Christian Church; but if we can’t find such, we have no reason to believe that there is such a Church on the earth. “But,” says one, “we call ourselves Christians.” That is a very easy matter; but calling yourselves Christians or Christian churches does not make you such.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, July 11, 1875

Christianity Non-existent Until 19th Century

Journal of Discourses 18:172; “But as there has been no Christian Church on the earth for a great many centuries past, until the present century, the people have lost sight of the pattern that God has given according to which the Christian Church should be established, and they have denominated a great variety of people Christian Churches, because they profess to be.” – Orson Pratt, March 26, 1876

Christians have no More Authority than Heathen Priest

Journal of Discourses 18:175; “This is about the way you would get answered by all the various churches that have lived during many hundreds of years past, in regard to their authority; they have no more authority than a heathen priest. Why? Because they have denied all the fundamental power and principles of the ancient Christian Church.” – Orson Pratt, March 26, 1876

Two Churches; God Made One, Devil the Other

Journal of Discourses 18:215; “There are only two churches on the earth—only two parties. God leads the one, the devil the other.” – Orson Pratt, March 26, 1872, Salt Lake City

Christianity Converted into Paganism

Journal of Discourses 22:44-45; “…but the time came when Paganism was engrafted into Christianity, and at last Christianity was converted into Paganism rather than converting the Pagans.” – President Joseph F. Smith, February 6, 1881, Logan, Utah

Christian God is Being of Their Own Creation

Journal of Discourses 23:243; “The God whom the ‘Christians’ worship is a being of their own creation…” – Charles W. Penrose, Salt Lake City, January 14, 1883

God Loves Infidels of Christianity

Journal of Discourses 24:140; “I do not wish to reflect upon any other body of people or upon any sect; I believe there are thousands of excellent people in the world—people as good as any that are numbered in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—scattered through all the sects and in the Pagan world and in the infidel world. I do not confine my feelings of admiration to those who believe even in Jesus, the Son of God, whom I view as my Redeemer and my Savior. I believe that there are thousands, and it may be said millions of well-meaning, good people, whom God loves, that are numbered among the Pagans and that are numbered among the infidels to Christianity.” – George Q. Cannon, Logan, Utah, May 6, 1883.

Christianity is False Christianity, Doesn’t Satisfy

Journal of Discourses 24:185; “I do not wish to say anything in relation to other forms of religion; I do not know that it is necessary that I should do so; but no thinking man can admit that Christianity so-called—I call it a false Christianity, untrue to its name—satisfies the wants of humanity at the present time.” – George Q. Cannon, July 15, 1883, Salt Lake City

Anti-Christian Rhetoric & Lies of George Q. Cannon

After Mr. Canon went on at great length telling people that Christians don’t know who they worship, he made the following comment  – “Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom we worship as God, was a man like unto us…”

The problem? Mormons don’t believe Jesus is God and they certainly don’t refer to Him as such.

Christians don’t have Holy Ghost

Learning for the Eternities, pg. 107-108; “When the Prophet Joseph Smith was asked the difference between the Latter-day Saint Church and the sectarian churches of the world, he said, “We have the Holy Ghost,” by which he meant that by the power of the Holy Ghost the will of our Father is revealed to the minds of the leaders of the Church. So I repeat, What the prophet says is what the Lord would say if he were here, and it is scripture.” – Marion Romney, 1977

Anti-Christian Rhetoric & Lies of George

Christian Authority Taken from Earth Centuries Ago

Liahona, “What Happened to Christ’s Church?”, Feb 2005, 12; “Fewer than 400 years after the death of the Savior, the Church as Jesus organized it was nowhere to be found in the whole world…The New Testament Apostles and Book of Mormon disciples were gone. And gone with them was the authority to administer the Church and to hold the priesthood…With the death of the Apostles, priesthood keys, or the presiding priesthood authority, were taken from the earth…Over time doctrines were corrupted and unauthorized changes were made in Church organization and priesthood ordinances.” – Shanna Butler

Church of the Devil is Modern Christianity

Millennial Messiah, pg. 56; “The church of the devil is every evil and worldly organization on earth. It is all of the systems, both Christian and non-Christian, that have perverted the pure and perfect gospel; it is all of the governments and powers that run counter to the divine will; it is the societies and political parties and labor unions that sow strife and reap contention. It is communism; it is Islam; it is Buddhism; it is modern Christianity in all its parts. It is Germany under Hitler, Russia under Stalin, and Italy under Mussolini. It is the man of sin speaking in churches, orating in legislative halls, and commanding the armies of men.” – Bruce McConkie, 1982

Apostate Christendom: Signs of the Times

Millennial Messiah, pg 403; “Thus the signs of the times include the prevailing apostate darkness in the sects of Christendom and in the religious world in general. False churches, false prophets, false worship—breeding as they do a way of life that runs counter to the divine will—all these are signs of the times.” – Bruce McConkie

So-called Christian Era

Mormon Doctrine pg 131; “See –>CHRIST, –>CHRISTIANITY. On the false assumption that Christianity had its beginning with our Lord’s mortal ministry, his birth was chosen to mark the beginning of the so-called Christian Era. Though there is considerable controversy and uncertainty among scholars of the world as to the actual year of Christ’s birth, the revelation given on the day the Church was organized in this dispensation apparently intends to convey the thought that he was born April 6, B.C. 1. (D. & C. 20:1.)”

Salvation, None Outside of Mormonism

Mormon Doctrine, pg. 138; “There is no salvation outside this one true Church, the Church of Jesus Christ. There is one Christ, one Church, one gospel, one plan of salvation, one set of saving ordinances, one group of legal administrators, “One Lord, one faith, one baptism.” (Eph. 4:5.)”

Cult, According to the LDS Church

Mormon Doctrine, pg 174, 699, Under the sects section it says; “See APOSTASY, CHRISTIANITY, CREEDS, FIRST VISION, HARLOTS. Division and dissension, contention, confusion and discord — these are among the prevailing characteristics of the sects of Christendom.” – Bruce McConkie [emphasis mine]

Apostate Christianits Readied for a Mythical Christ

Mormon Doctrine, pg. 269; “…virtually all the millions of apostate christendom have abased themselves before the mythical throne of a mythical Christ whom they vainly suppose to be a spirit essence who is incorporeal uncreated, immaterial and three-in-one with the Father and Holy Spirit.” – Bruce McConkie, 1966

Christian Creeds Smashed to Smithereens

Mormon Doctrine, pg 284-285; “Through it [the restoration] the creeds of Christendom were shattered to smithereens, and because of it the truth about those Beings whom it is life eternal to know began again to be taught among men (John 17:3).”

Protestants a Dead Branch from Dead Tree

Mormon Doctrine, pg 609; “This Protestant revolution was inspired of God; it was one of the necessary occurrences which prepared the way for the restoration of the gospel.

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are not Protestants, and the Church itself is not a Protestant church. The true Church is not a dead branch broken from a dead tree; it is a living tree planted again by revelation in the vineyard of the Lord…”

Christian Views are Pagan

Mormon Doctrine on Deity, pg. 116; “…the orthodox Christians and Mr. V. may find their God of pure “being,” that never is “becoming,” but always is; also the creation of the universe out of nothing. The fact is that orthodox Christian views of God are Pagan rather than Christian.” – B.H. Roberts, LDS Church Historian, December 1903

Mormons Claim what Christians Throw Away

Mormon Doctrine of Deity, pg 257-258; “Thus perfected, the whole family will possess the material universe—…With these hopes and prospects before us, we say to the Christian world, who hold to immateriality, that they are welcome to their God—their life—their heaven, and their all.

They claim nothing but that which we throw away, and we claim nothing but that which they throw away. Therefore, there is no ground for quarrel, or contention between us.” – BH Roberts

Christian Gospel not Sent of God

Scrapbook of Mormon Literature, Vol. 1, pg. 86; “Now, it is plain that men have denied immediate revelation for many hundred years past, consequently have not received it, and therefore could not have been sent of God to administer in the fulness of the Gospel.” – Ben Rich, 1849 (?)

Christianity Adopted Paganism

Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, pg 86-87; “With the passing of the Apostles and the loss of the priesthood keys, corrupt doctrines were introduced into the Church. In the words of one eminent historian, “Christianity did not destroy paganism; it adopted it…”…Do we realize to what extent the world has descended into spiritual darkness? It begins in a large measure with many of the clergy, some of whom now cast doubt on the existence of God, questioning the divinity of the Savior and denying the truthfulness of the Bible.”

Mormonism Only True Church

Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, pg. 164-165; “This is not just another Church. This is not just one of a family of Christian churches. This is the Church and kingdom of God, the only true Church upon the face of the earth, according to the Lord’s own words (see D&C 1:30).” – 1988

Contend Against Church of the Devil

Teachings of the Doctrine and Covenants, pg 91; “Contend against no church, save it be the church of the devil.” – William E. Berrett

Devil Inspires Christianity

Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 270; “What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world.”

Christianity Ceased to Exist

The Great Apostasy, pgs 18-19; “We affirm that with the passing of the so-called apostolic age the Church gradually drifted into a condition of apostasy, whereby succession in the priesthood was broken; and that the Church, as an earthly organization operating under divine direction and having authority to officiate in spiritual ordinances, ceased to exist.” – James Talmage – 1958

Soul Destroying & Sickening Influences of Christianity

The Seer, pg. 111; “Must we, under the broad folds of the American Constitution, be compelled to bow down to the narrow contracted notions of Apostate Christianity…Must we be slaves to custom and render homage to the soul-destroying, sickening influences of modern Christianity? No!” – Orson Pratt

Christians Destitute of God’s Authority

The Seer, pg. 255; ““Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the ‘whore of Babylon’ whom the Lord denounces …as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness.  And any person who shall be so wicked as to receive a holy ordinance of the gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent of the unholy and impious act.”— Orson Pratt
