History of the Church 5:403; “Salvation is for a man to be saved from all his enemies; for until a man can triumph over death, he is not saved. A knowledge of the priesthood alone will do this.” – Joseph Smith, May 21, 1843
1 John 5:11-12; “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”
The apostles provided the teachings of the gospel through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. While every believer had/has the Holy Spirit residing in them, the apostles were the only people endowed with inspiration to teach, write and reveal God’s message in this manner. With that being said – we can see John’s authority with the phrase “and this is the record”, meaning this is the teaching they needed to know.
No amount of knowledge of any type of priesthood will save a person. We must know God and His Son whom He sent and that’s what brings us salvation! John asserted that message in his epistles, Paul did it in his letters to the churches and even Peter taught as much in his letters to the Jewish believers in Jerusalem.
Why do we need to know this? Isaiah summed it best –
Isaiah 59:2; “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
By and large the Mormon people have never heard why they’re sinners in need of a Redeemer, yet they’ve been told they must repent of their sins and their inactions or lack of works can prevent them from gaining a true salvation.
Today share with a Mormon why they’re a sinner and have been born with a sin nature! This topic will keep you engaged in conversation with a Mormon for quite awhile so be sure you keep the focus on topic and keep bringing it back to why they need Jesus! The authority of God can only be found in Christ alone and His redeeming work on the cross.
