The video below is a clip of Rob Bell being interviewed on Fox & Friends.
What caught my attention wasn’t Mr. Bell’s false theory on hell, but the picture right behind him and Gretchen Carlson.
This picture would be very recognizable to anyone who’s spent time in the Mormon Church; it hangs many in ward buildings and temples all around the world. The picture is a Mormon depiction of the second coming. While the artist Harry Anderson wasn’t a Mormon he was commissioned by the church to paint this and many others.
As you can see by the picture the angels have no wings, that’s because one of the core Mormon teachings about angels is they don’t have wings.
Seeing this picture both shocked and appalled me, I’m not sure whose idea it was to display this picture behind them, but clearly some research needed to be done before it was given the go ahead to be used as a prop. I also don’t know why someone who professes to be a Christian would want to sit there with this picture behind them.
Part of my thinks that maybe I should cut everyone involved some slack, maybe they didn’t know this wretched picture wasn’t of the biblical Jesus Christ but of the Mormon Jesus who’s not God, but a created being himself.
Still if you’re involved in set design for a news program and news anchor for said program wouldn’t you be more informed about what’s happening around you and where you’re getting the pictures behind you? Furthermore, if you’re a pastor wouldn’t you know your enemy, wouldn’t you be able to spot a picture of a false Jesus a mile away?
In Christ,
Melissa Grimes
