Questioning?
General Conference, October 2004; “Some people exalt themselves above God and His annointed servants because of their learning and scholarly achievements. We must never allow our intellect to take priority over our spirit. Our intellect can feed our spirit and our spirit can feed our intellect, but if we allow our intellect to take precedence over our spirit, we stumble, find fault, and may even lose our testimonies.” – Joseph B. Wirthlin
Acts 17:11; “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
In other words don’t allow your common sense to kick in when thinking about all the contradictions, threats and outrageous behavioral problems of some of the leaders. If you leave you’ve betrayed the brethren as well as God and you might lose that all important Mormon testimony.
The problem with this scenario is what Dr. Luke tells us in the book of Acts. The Bereans were a noble minded people who studied the word of God each and every day to see if Paul’s claims were true. They wouldn’t rest until they knew what God had said about any given situation. Their story is quite remarkable! They stand as a great example for us today on how we’re to look to the word of God for direction so we stay close to Him.
