Inerrancy of the Bible
http://www.lds.org/study/topics/bible-inerrancy-of?lang=eng “Latter-day Saints revere the Bible. They study it and believe it to be the word of God. However, they do not believe the Bible, as it is currently available, is without error.
Additional Information
Joseph Smith commented, “I believe the Bible as it read when it came from the pen of the original writers” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, sel. Joseph Fielding Smith [1976], 327).
The Latter-day Saints have a great reverence and love for the Bible. They study it and try to live its teachings. They treasure its witness of the life and mission of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Prophet Joseph Smith studied the Bible all his life, and he taught its precepts. He testified that a person who can “mark the power of Omnipotence, inscribed upon the heavens, can also see God’s own handwriting in the sacred volume: and he who reads it oftenest will like it best, and he who is acquainted with it, will know the hand [of the Lord] wherever he can see it” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 56).
As the Bible was compiled, organized, translated, and transcribed, many errors entered the text. The existence of such errors becomes apparent when one considers the numerous and often conflicting translations of the Bible in existence today.”
2 Timothy 3:16; “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
According to www.dictionary.com “the word revere means to stand in awe of”, to honor, adore. The Church leaders from Smith on down to Monson do NOT revere the Bible. If they did they wouldn’t be pushing the Book of Mormon, nor would they tell people the Bible has errors.
Honoring something means you don’t denigrate it with your next breath. Sadly, I used to do the same thing Monson, Smith, Brigham Young and most all Mormons do. They believed the lies of Satan. Not knowing exactly where an error might be or who mistranslated the Bible, the lie of it not being trustworthy is passed on down from one generation to the next without doing the least bit of investigating.
The irony of this behavior is something to behold. While not completely believing the Bible when I left Mormonism, I also wondered if John the Baptist and John the Apostle might be the same person. I obviously knew nothing about the contents or how to search for the answers I needed within its cover. And yet…I held the sin of pride, condemnation and mistrust deep within my heart towards God’s lovely word. If it weren’t for His mercy upon me…thank you will never suffice.
AMEN! Yes, where are the so-called errors? Enumerate them for us.
