If Adam & Eve Hadn’t Sinned Could They have had Children?
2 Nephi 2:22-23; “And now, behold, if Adam had not transgressed he would not have fallen, but he would have remained in the garden of Eden. And all things which were created must have remained in the same state in which they were after they were created; and they must have remained forever, and had no end. 23 And they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin.”
Genesis 2:24, 3:23; “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh…Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.”
As we can see from reading just two scriptures there’s no justification for Smith’s false accusations in the Book of Mormon. God gave Adam and Eve specific directives and it’s easy enough for anyone to read things in order and in context to figure out what God has intended for man.
He told them to be fruitful and multiply and then they were punished for their sin. There’s nothing in the Bible indicating they wouldn’t have had children if they hadn’t sinned – on the contrary we see how God blessed them and told them to cleave to each other making one flesh.
Smith’s introduction of this heretical theology is nothing short of another form of witchcraft. He’s taken the teaching of Yin-Yang and mixed it with an out of order context of biblical scripture.
Yin-yang is the theory of two opposites that are needed to balance life; dark & light, good & bad, male & female, etc. In this passage from the BoM we see how Eve has expressed joy and exultation in sinning against God because if she hadn’t of done so she wouldn’t know the joy of motherhood. Yeah…okay.
The Bible doesn’t give any indication that Adam was bereft of knowing joy, nor does it tell us that being in a state of innocence brings misery.
