CNN reported late this afternoon the Boy Scouts of America has voted to lift ban on gay members. The ban does not extend to gay leaders.
CNN also said people of the LDS faith make up 40% of the scouting organization. While they (BSA) said they’re expecting to see a sharp decline in donations and membership roles they’re confident these will pick back up after some time passes by.
It makes me wonder…is this a sign of what’s to come in the Mormon Church? Hmmm…time will tell, but with their announcement earlier this year of reaching out to the gay community within the Church it makes it interesting.
This is disappointing, I guess they made the decision of whether, or not to enroll my son in Cub Scouts this year that much easier. Openly gay Scouts are just the beginning soon they’ll be asking for openly gay leaders as well.
I’m not sure what the Mormons are going to do. Back when my older boys were in Scouts, and we were still Mormon I got the impression that the church would drop their Scouting program if something like this happened. Now who knows, but it’ll be interesting to see how they process this new information.
It’s an easy inroad for them to introduce something new into the Church without their prophet having to do his job and have a real revelation. 😉 This was just a natural precursor to what’s about to come.
