Book of Mormon Context Change/Nature of Jesus
The Book of Mormon is fraught with changes, discrepancies, contradictions and plagiarisms. Oh, did I mention false prophecies?
Today’s dilemma will show one example of a change made to the BoM text which in turn changed the whole meaning of the message. The passage here is talking about the nature and character of Jesus.
Today’s Version
1 Nephi 11:18; “And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of the Son of God, after the manner of the flesh.”
1830 Version
1 Nephi 11:18; “And he said unto me, Behold, the virgin which thou seest, is the mother of God, after the manner of flesh.”
So is Mary the mother of God or the mother of the Son of God?
Galatians 6:7; “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
From Paul’s words we know God expects us to take responsibility for what we believe and not to be confused by false teachers. In the preceding verse in chapter six we find Paul’s exhortation that teachers are held responsible for their words and the congregation is responsible for maintaining the teachers.
We aren’t here to be tossed to and fro with doctrines of men that change with the wind and this one verse in the Book of Mormon is a red flag to everyone!
