Continents to be Joined Again
Answers to Gospel Questions 5:73-74; “The dividing of the earth [Genesis 10:25] was not an act of division by the inhabitants of the earth by tribes and peoples, but a breaking asunder of the continents, thus dividing the land surface and creating the Eastern Hemisphere and Western Hemisphere. By looking at a wall map of the world, you will discover how the land surface along the northern and southern coast of the American Hemisphere and Europe and Africa has the appearance of having been together at one time…We are informed by revelation that the time will come when this condition will be changed and that the land surface of the earth will come back again as it was in the beginning and all be in one place. This is definitely stated in the Doctrine and Covenants.” – Joseph Fielding Smith
Genesis 10:25; “And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.”
2 Peter 3:10; “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
You’ll notice the prophet of the Church didn’t quote from the Bible as to what will happen to the earth at the end of time. The Bible was somehow good enough to be used and trusted in figuring out how the continents came about though. It’s “funny” how that happens…
When you talk to your Mormon loved ones ask them what their thoughts are about this subject and remind them how their personal opinion matters to you! Mormons learn their personal opinions don’t matter on things like this because God only speaks through their prophets. Asking simple questions like this promotes self evaluation and problem solving skills.
