Collected Discourses 1886-1898, Vol. 3, May 6, 1892; “Truth is truth, where’er ‘tis found, on Christian or on heathen ground. This religion called Mormonism is no new thing.” – Bishop Orson F. Whitney at the Unitarian Conference
Isaiah 43:10-11; “Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. 11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.”
John 14:6; “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
There really is no other way to express it better than what God has said about Himself in His word. He alone is the way, the truth and the life. He alone is God with none other before, next to, or after Him.
To insinuate or boldly claim that truth comes from anywhere you find it is blasphemy.
Orson Whitney was right about one thing. Mormonism is really no new thing. It’s a composite of new age philosophies, witchcraft, the occult, Masonry, ancestor worship and Gnosticism and that’s just the first few things that come to mind. As King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 1:9-10;
“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. 10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.”
The purpose of Mormonism has always been the same and that is to confuse people while leading them away from God. Imagine how God’s heart must hurt if ours is so heavy here.
