L. John Nuttall Journal, May 31, 1879; “[Abraham Smoot inquiring of Joseph Smith] What should be done with the Negroes in the South as I was preaching to them? [Joseph] said I could baptize them by the consent of their masters, but could not confer the Priesthood upon them.”
Galatians 3:27-28; “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
This is a prime example of Joseph Smith denying the priesthood to blacks. When the Church and its members tell us the ban began with Brigham Young we can read the journals of his secretaries and those who had access to the real history of the Church.
If you’re baptized into Christ then what else is there to prevent us from being in the body of Christ? According to Paul there’s nothing – we are one with Him!
