David O. McKay diary, Feb. 14, 1964 as quoted in Anderson, Devery; The Development of LDS Temple Worship, 1846-2000: A Documentary History; “Temples * Book of Decisions for [Temple] Presidents * Presidents [Hugh B.] Brown and [N. Eldon] Tanner reported to me that they had gone through the manuscript of the proposed book of decisions as prepared by Elders Howard W. Hunter, ElRay L. Christiansen and Alvin R. Dyer, and had marked those items which they felt needed [a] decision by me. The matters were presented and I approved as follows: [clarification about sealing of children, bic, etc..] … It was suggested that the ordinance of baptism for members of the negro race be performed by others than negroes if this can be accomplished without offense…” – Today in Mormon History Blogspot
1 Cor 15:29, 33; “Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? 33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”
Today I was thinking of all the Mormons who believe the past racist teachings of the Church don’t have an effect on their spiritual welfare today.
If what they were teaching before 1978 was bad and they changed their ways what happens to all the people that died before that time who believed the racist lies?
How does God deal justice out to those who didn’t follow the Lord’s doctrine from His word?
