Conference Report, April 1939, Morning Meeting, p 57; “The negro is an unfortunate man. He has been given a black skin. But that is as nothing compared with that greater handicap that he is not permitted to receive the Priesthood and the ordinances of the temple, necessary to prepare men and women to enter into and enjoy a fulness of glory in the celestial kingdom. What is the reason for this condition, we ask, and I find it to my satisfaction to think that as spirit children of our Eternal Father they were not valiant in the fight” – George F. Richards
Romans 6:13; “Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God”.
George Richards (1861-1950) was an apostle of the Church as was his father Franklin D Richards and his son LeGrand. LeGrand would write a book called “Gospel Through the Ages” which in my humble opinion sits in the top five most evil books the Church has ever produced.
George and his wife Alice had fifteen kids (Encyclopedia of Mormonism, Appendix 1, p 1644), his father Franklin was a polygamist in the Joseph Smith era with no less than 13+ wives. This is the type of household and mindset George Richards was raised in so this gives you a clear picture of where this man was coming from.
I’m obviously not a fan of racism seeing as it’s against God’s word and all, and I understand we only know what we’re taught as kids. However, when we’re adults it’s time to move on and grow up. Apparently this never took place in the head of this guy. The apple didn’t’ fall from the tree as they say.
Being in a position of authority as this man was brings with it a higher standard. The Bible tells us that teachers will be held accountable for what they teach and are held to that higher standard – James 3:1.
It’s obvious this man either didn’t care and rejected what our dear Lord said or he chose to stay ignorant. By announcing such ugly teachings at a General Conference he’s responsible for indoctrinating others with this poisonous lie.
I grew up in shame because of teachings such as this. The private horror inside my heart was unrelenting until Jesus rescued me from the lies. My coloring was the “Scarlet Letter” announcing to all of Utah that I had rejected the Lord.
Are non-white Mormons today allowed full access into the Celestial Kingdom and if so then what does Joe Smith think about it?
