Journal of Discourses 14:115-117; “As for the Bible account of the creation we may say that the Lord gave it to Moses, or that Moses obtained the history and traditions of the fathers, and from them picked out what he considered necessary, and that account has been handed down from age to age, and we have got it, no matter whether it is correct or not, and whether the Lord found the earth empty or void, or whether he made it out of nothing or out of the rude elements; or whether he made it in six years or in as many millions of years, it will remain a matter of speculation in the minds of men unless he give revelation on the subject.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, May 14, 1871
Ephesians 4:14; “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive”.
Well the newsflash of the day is that God already revealed how the earth came to be. Shocker! Genesis 1:1-5 tells us that God did it all by Himself and according to His word it took Him one day.
I realize it took God six days to create the earth and all that inhabits the earth, i.e. men and animals, etc., but we’re looking at how long it took to create just the earth. As I mentioned, it took one day. With this in mind, why did Brigham Young a so-called prophet of God for the only true church on earth say what he did? Wouldn’t a man of such high caliber know these things? After all, I would expect more from someone like him when I’m just an everyday person…or as someone online told me not long ago ‘is there something wrong with you, you seem to not comprehend things very well and seem confused by simple sentences’…
What I do know as a Christian is what God has revealed to me and everyone through His holy word. He alone created the earth and He alone gets credit for it. There’s no need to ‘speculate’ at all! For simpletons like myself I believe what God said in His word – it took 1 day to create the actual earth and six days to create the earth and everything that inhabits it.
The Bible also reveals to us that those who doubt God’s word are idolaters and the reason why is because doubt is selfish pride. We’re focused upon self- aggrandizement which is the fulfillment of self while excluding all other things, people and their needs out. It tells us ‘you will be like God’. Sound familiar? Genesis 3:5!
Doubting, not trusting in all that God has provided is sin.
