Journal of Discourses 3:369; “You know that we sometimes need a prompter; if any one of you was called by the government of the United States to go to Germany, Italy, or any foreign nation, as an Ambassador, if you did not understand the language somebody would have to interpret for you. Well, these evil spirits are ready to prompt you. Do they prompt us? Yes, and I could put my hands on an dozen of them while I have been on this stand; they are here on the stand. Could we do without the devils? No, we could not get along without them. They are here, and they suggest this, that, and the other.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, June 22, 1856
Matthew 4:10; “Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
How very, very sad. And how very, very evil!
If you’re a Mormon did you know that you can use the scripture above because of the power God has given to us? His Spirit resides inside you when you’ve accepted Him as God and no power can come up against you!
With that in mind, why would Brigham say such a thing? He obviously didn’t care whether or not evil spirits were surrounding him.
If you’re LDS what are your thoughts about this?
At the opening of every single worship service at my church one of the pastors will pray over the congregation and ask God’s Spirit to be with us and that He will be glorified. If a pastor in any service I attended said the things Brigham said here I’d get up and walk out.
Jesus’ words in Matthew is a perfect example that we don’t need Satan and we don’t need evil.
