Essential Brigham Young, p 98-99; “…I reckon that the children of Adam and Eve married each other; this is speaking to the point. I believe in sisters marrying brothers, and brothers having their sisters for wives. Why? Because we cannot do otherwise. There are none others for me to marry but my sisters…
If I did not I would marry another of my sisters that lives over in another garden; the material of which they are organized is just the same; there is no difference between them, and those who live in this garden. Our spirits are all brothers and sisters, and so are our bodies; and the opposite idea to this has resulted from the ignorant, and foolish traditions of the nations of the Earth. They have corrupted themselves with each other, and I want them to understand that they have corrupted their own flesh, blood, and bones; for they are of the same flesh, blood, and bones, as all the family of the Earth.” – October 8, 1854
Leviticus 18:9; “The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover.”
So this was one of the more disturbing teachings in the annals of Mormonism. Ugh.
This sermon was given several years after Young received a letter from a young woman, Jane Brown, asking for permission to marry her half-brother George D. Watt who just so happened to be the Church’s stenographer. Brigham supposedly rejected the initial request, but at some point he finally acquiesced.
According to family records they were married on January 5, 1852, had three kids and yes, he was a polygamist.
According to Wilford Woodruff, 4th LDS prophet, this was one of the best sermons Brigham ever preached. WWJ (Wilford Woodruff Journal) 4:290
In addition to this marriage there are numerous reports of other Mormons marrying close relatives (mothers-in-law, grandmothers and stepchildren) that you can read about in Wife No. 19 and Tell It All These are just a couple of examples that Mormons were marrying their relatives. Don’t they know inbreeding causes serious problems???
It obviously goes without saying this is incest and totally against anything that God would condone! Shame on Brigham and shame on the Mormon Church!
