1978 Gospel Principles, p 290; “We can become Gods like our Heavenly Father. This is exaltation.”
1997 Gospel Principles, p 302; “We can become like our Heavenly Father. This is exaltation.”
2014 Gospel Principles, p 277; “We can become like our Heavenly Father. This is exaltation.”
Isaiah 44:8; “Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.”
As you can see in our LDS examples today, the teachings of the Church are as ambiguous as it gets.
The rest of their submission in this section of Gospel Principles goes on to say those who obey will be blessed by becoming gods;
‘They will become gods (see D&C 132:20–23).’
So we’re wondering…
If they’re going to become gods then why did they change this section of Gospel Principles? What purpose did it serve?
More importantly, if God said He didn’t know of any other gods, what does that mean for the Mormon people?
I’d be interested in seeing someone answer this… this has to be one of those “I can’t answer this” moments. If you’re LDS and reading this, consider that uneasy feeling a wake-up call!
I just wanted to thank you for all of your messages and information you share on Mormonism. It is so hard for my Husband who left Mormonism over 20 years ago and still has a huge family, brothers and sisters and his dad, still very active LDS. He is saddened by their lack of concern for the real teachings in the Bible and how they seem so oblivious to the cult they are in. As we have shared many of your posts to ours on FB, we have been called bashers of their faith and of course, anti-Mormon and have been completely cut off by them. I, myself, though never LDS have strong roots on my dad’s side and am a 6 generation ancestor to William Morley Black who had 6 wives. He is my GGG-grandfather who practiced Polygamy way after the 1890 manifest, and even though I post the information about my ancestry, they have called me a liar and told me years back that the church never practiced Polygamy. I’m so glad the church has issued the essays even though they don’t contain the whole “truth”. It is so hard to reach them as they have an answer for everything. I think if Joseph Smith were alive and told them to jump off a building, they would. Please keep doing what you are doing and maybe together we can all bring this info to them and hopefully they will start to question. May God bless you and thank you again. A sister in Christ, Donna
Dear Donna –
I wanted to thank you for writing in tonight and let you know that we’ll be praying for you, your husband and all the families involved.
i know and can empathize with your situation. My family is much the same way. As long as we talk about the weather, our pets or what the price of food costs nowadays, everything’s fine. Everything else is totally off limits.
Change is scary Donna, the unknown is just too much of a risk for many people to think about the what ifs…
Keep witnessing! It was through the persistent love and sharing the truth with me that I finally came around – albeit 13 years is a long time to witness! My poor friends never thought they’d see the day. 😉
You kind words of encouragement are cherished so thanks for taking the time to do so for us!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
1 Cor 1:18
Hey Michelle – I posted a few comments last night, but I couldn’t pull up my wordpress so I posted under the lifeafter e-mail (my wordpress was set up under my business e-mail a couple of years ago)… I responded to Sean about Grace and was looking for it…
