The Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p 335; “The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet. The living prophet has the power of TNT. By that I mean “Today’s News Today.” God’s revelations to Adam did not instruct Noah how to build the ark. Noah needed his own revelation. Therefore, the most important prophet, so far as you and I are concerned, is the one living in our day and age to whom the Lord is currently revealing His will for us. Therefore, the most important reading we can do is any of the words of the prophet contained each week in the Church section of the Deseret News and any words of the prophet contained each month in our Church magazines. Our marching orders for each six months are found in the general conference addresses, which are printed in the Ensign magazine.” – Ezra Taft Benson
Hebrews 4:12; “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Why would a Christian need anything outside of His word when the author of Hebrews has made it quite clear the Bible is enough?
The good Lord reveals His will for us every second of every day; all we have to do is pick up our Bibles to discover what that is.
I recall being a Mormon and going days, if not weeks, without looking in His word all because I didn’t know where to look or what to look for. Instead I’d just obey as Mr. Benson said here – listen to the prophets. In childhood I could’ve been pitied for such a scenario, but in adulthood the rules change for us!
If you’re LDS I’m praying you pick up your Bible and start reading in the book of John to discover who Jesus is. As you read and learn more about Him it’s certain you’ll find out what He wants for your life. I’m living proof of that!
