General Women’s Meeting, “Keeping Covenants Protects Us, Prepares Us, and Empowers Us,” March 2014; “We are daughters of our Heavenly Father. We are covenant-making women of all ages walking the path of mortality back to His presence. Keeping covenants protects us, prepares us, and empowers us.” – Rosemary M. Wixom
Isaiah 24:5; “The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.”
The warning from God through His prophet Isaiah isn’t something you want to hear directed towards you! If someone is a covenant-breaker it means one of two things. Either they’ve rejected God’s covenant that He made with man or they embraced and then denounced Him.
Either way it’s bad news.
Keeping covenant with God is a memorable act, but only if you’ve covenanted with the One True God of the Bible.
Making covenants with any other god outside the parameters that we find in the New Testament is to align yourself with false gods. You can make promises to be a good person all you want, however, those mean nothing if you’ve rejected His Son.
Keeping covenants doesn’t protect you.
There’s nothing in the Bible that promises us we’re protected from harm or things from the ‘outside’ that could harm us. Mormons who are serving on missions die, temple worthy Mormons die every day.
In that vein, even Christians die. The difference is that we can ask for protection that God will watch over us and keep us in Him. The fact is that people get sick, they get in car wrecks, and one thing we all have in common is that we will all die someday.
The difference is whether or not we’re walking with Him. When we are, the sting of death is gone as Paul told us. The reason as I said is because we’re walking in the covenant God provided through His Son Christ Jesus.
