PBS, The Mormons; “One area of the Book of Mormon that does bother some is what they see as anachronistic doctrine; that the Book of Mormon has Christian doctrine prior to the coming of Christ; that it has seemingly New Testament doctrines appearing centuries before Jesus arrives, and it seems to be representing a form of Christianity existing in the New World where there doesn’t seem to be much evidence of that archaeologically. Christianity is invisible in the New World prior to the coming of Columbus, and so those things seem like clear anachronisms to people looking at it in that way.” – Daniel C. Peterson
Proverbs 26:28; “A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.”
Yeah well, I’ve got a newsflash for Mr. Petersen. The only people not bothered by the anachronisms in the BoM are Mormons.
Everyone else in the world, Christian and non-Christian alike, are bothered by the impossibilities of what Smith tried to claim in the false gospel he named the Book of Mormon.
Experts, i.e. historians, scientists, archaeologists and doctors, have all come to the same conclusion. The BoM is used as a piece of literature and never used as a scientific guide of historical value to anyone in the professional world.
You can read our e-mail exchanges with the National Geographic Society and Smithsonian when we requested info on their thoughts about this subject.
PETERSON MUST BE A MORMON WHO IS FENCE-SITTING.
IT SHOULD READ:
PBS, The Mormons; “One area of the Book of Mormon that does bother some is ______anachronistic doctrine; that the Book of Mormon has Christian doctrine prior to the coming of Christ; that it has_____ New Testament doctrines appearing centuries before Jesus arrives, and it _______REPRESENTS___ a form of Christianity existing in the New World where there _____IS NO___ evidence of that archaeologically. Christianity is invisible in the New World prior to the coming of Columbus, and so those things ____ARE ___clear anachronisms to people ________________.”” – Daniel C. Peterson
I immediately caught the “doesn’t seem to be much evidence archaeologically.” That was optimistic thinking if ever I heard it. Certainly this was an area Mark Hoffman was interested in, and his mission trips and study of archaeology put him in a place where he could easily forge supposed Mormon documents (including the “salamander” letter). And later led to his terrorist acts, where he eventually blew himself up, and almost died from it.
That’s a faith destroyer right there for any Mormon, the study of archaeology. You’d think that the remains of chariots would be found, gold and brass artifacts, any of the so-called cities of the BoM, and most certainly, a Temple that in Jerusalem had required the work of hundreds of craftsmen – but in America required just a family of Jews.
And most certainly, there is no trace of the ancient Egyptian language among native Americans – not that Jews anywhere would abandon the use of Hebrew for Egyptian.
When I mentioned that on my blog, wow, the firestorm that one comment started!
I think for any Mormon reading this, you should most definitely read the plan of salvation on this site, and ask yourself, is this what the LDS teaches? And then, start reading the articles. There’s hundreds of conflicts between the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and hundreds of problems in the Mormon faith. Take the time and read this blog!
