A few weeks ago we posted an article about the Garden Endowment Ceremony and asked a few questions about their version of events when Adam and Eve partook of the fruit in the Garden of Eden.
Today we’re looking at the spiritual meaning of the next scene in the ceremony by digging into God’s word and comparing it with the Church’s portrayal of Adam and Eve trying to hide their nakedness.
You can find our list of questions at the end.
Again, if you’re interested in reading all of the ceremonies, you can find the scripts for each one on both our site and blog.
“[Lucifer returns as Adam is eating the fruit.]
LUCIFER: That is right.
EVE: [To Adam.] It is better for us to pass through sorrow that we may know the good from the evil. [To Lucifer.] I know thee now. Thou art Lucifer, he who was cast out of Father’s presence for rebellion.
LUCIFER: Yes. You are beginning to see already.
ADAM: What is that apron you have on?
LUCIFER: It is an emblem of my power and priesthoods.
ADAM: Priesthoods?
LUCIFER: Yes, priesthoods.
ADAM: I am looking for Father to come down to give us further instructions.
LUCIFER: Oh, you are looking for Father to come down, are you?
[Elohim and Jehovah are heard speaking outside the Garden Room.]
ELOHIM: Jehovah, we promised Adam that we would visit him and give him further instructions. Come, let us go down.
JEHOVAH: We will go down, Elohim.
ADAM: I hear their voices; they are coming.
LUCIFER: See–you are naked. Take some fig leaves and make you aprons. Father will see your nakedness. Quick! Hide!
[Lucifer withdraws from view.]
ADAM: Brethren and sisters, put on your aprons.
[He waits until they have done so.]
[To Eve.] Come, let us hide.
[Adam and Eve withdraw from view.]
THE GODS RETURN
[Elohim and Jehovah return to the Garden Room.]
ELOHIM: Adam! Adam! Adam, where art thou?
[Adam returns.]
ADAM: I heard thy voice and hid myself, because I was naked.
ELOHIM: Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou partaken of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, of which we commanded thee not to partake?
ADAM: The woman thou gavest me and commanded that she should remain with me–she gave me of the fruit of the tree, and I did eat.
ELOHIM: Eve!
[Eve returns.]
ELOHIM: What is this that thou hast done?
EVE: The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.…
THE COAT OF SKINS
ELOHIM: Jehovah, inasmuch as Adam and Eve have discovered their nakedness, make coats of skins as a covering for them.
JEHOVAH: It shall be done, Elohim.
Brethren and sisters, the garment which was placed upon you in the washing room is to cover your nakedness and represents the coat of skins spoken of. Anciently, it was made of skins. You have received the garment; also, your new name.”
And there you have it. The key subject here is the aprons and the spiritual meaning they hold.
When Adam and Eve covered themselves with fig leaf aprons they weren’t just covering their naked bodies; they were trying to cover their sin. They made a covering according to their standards, not the Lord’s, and as we know from scripture God will have nothing to do with it. In light of this He set into motion the spilling of blood and covenant relationships that we see through the history of His relationship with mankind.
In Genesis 3:7-8 it says Adam and Eve knew they had sinned, tried to cover it up and still knew it wasn’t good enough so they hid from God.
“And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. 8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.”
Nowhere in the transcripts, films or teachings from the temple ceremony is there any mention of the blood of Christ that was spilled on Calvary for man’s sins. Mormons swear allegiance to the laws of the priesthood, not Jesus.
They receive salvation, aka exaltation, through these oaths to the Mormon god and wear undergarments with markings of Joe Smith’s talisman. The only mention of blood is their own that will be spilled if they reveal the secrets they take in the temples. They use secret signs, secret handshakes, secret names and secret pledges to seal their souls to Lucifer and his priesthood.
And most certainly you won’t hear Jesus’ last words;
“…It is finished…”. – John 19:30
Synopsis –
Romans 3:20 tells us that no one is justified by works. Doesn’t sound strange that Mormons have convinced members that Adam and Eve were commissioned to bring sin into the world so everyone would be condemned?
The Mormon gospel leads people into the ‘lone and dreary world’ while Jesus’ gospel sets us free!
“Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
Adam and Eve attempt to rectify the scenario on their own by making aprons to cover their sin
Adam and Eve hid from God when they realized the aprons weren’t sufficient
Adam and Eve blame each other for their sin
Mormons attempt to hide their sin in temples only they can enter
Mormons wear garments representing Adam & Eve’s sin
Mormons wear aprons representing Lucifer’s priesthood powers
Mormons reject the spilt blood of Christ on the cross at Calvary
Genesis 3:7-10, 21; “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. 8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”
