Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p 89-90; “Not only are there apostates within our midst, but there are also apostate doctrines that are sometimes taught in our classes and from our pulpits and that appear in our publications. And these apostate precepts of men cause our people to stumble. As the Book of Mormon, speaking of our day, states: ‘They have all gone astray save it be a few, who are the humble followers of Christ; nevertheless, they are led, that in many instances they do err because they are taught by the precepts of men’ (2 Nephi 28:14).” — Ezra Taft Benson
1 Timothy 6:3-5; “If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.”
Two key phrases in our biblical passage are found in the first and last sentences. ‘If any man teach otherwise…withdraw thyself’.
A successful and well conditioned football team can look back at their season knowing they got to where they are because of the discipline they employed. They know the playbook like the back of their hand and are successful because of their anticipatory mindset of what the opposition might present them with. It’s a well known phenomena that a good defense wins championships.
The same can be said of a good Christian. The good Christian will arm himself with the best defense he can find and that’s God’s word. When the adversary comes out of the shadows a Christian turns to God’s word straightaway. In light of that we have some questions –
Why would any Christ led organization allow false teachers in its midst?
Why would anyone who has a heart for the God of the Bible allow apostate doctrines to be taught from its pulpit?
Do other Christian organizations have allowances for this as the Mormon Church does? Of course they don’t!
Would you feel at ease sending your child off to a class knowing false doctrines might be taught? I know I wouldn’t.
