Abraham H. Cannon Journal Excerpts, Vol. XIV: Jan. 28th, 1891 to July 14th 1891, pp. 14‑15; “Jan. 30th, 1891‑‑ZCMI deducted tithing before paying wages to employees.”
2 Corinthians 9:7; “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”
Sometimes you can retrieve brutally honest info from the journals of early Church members and we found this one while looking through the diaries of Abraham Cannon.
Mr. Cannon was the son of George Q. Cannon, apostle of the early LDS Church. Abraham, was also an LDS apostle, a polygamist and controlled just about every media portal in Utah, religious and otherwise.
The Bible tells us God loves a cheerful giver, but where does it say He loves a self-indulgent taker?
Not sure who told Church authorities it was their right to take what they thought was theirs, but I’m sure their actions weren’t biblical, not to mention legal.
