Journal of Discourses 3:206; “…Jesus, when upon the earth, called twelve men to be witnesses that he was the Christ…Did he convince, and prove to twelve men that he was the Christ, by the miracles he performed? He did not…
I know that many think that they are a great proof, that it is astonishing that people will not believe…Let me tell you that if his Apostles were here in this our day…it would all be no proof to the people that they were sent of God.
I know that some of you think this is strange, and if so, I have strange views upon these subjects.
It is no proof to me, it is no proof to any person else, and often serves to throw persons, relying upon it, into temptation, and to cast them still further into darkness.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, February 17, 1856
John 1:4-5; “In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
Acts 2:22-23; “Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain.”
There are some people in this world who are just a brick shy of a full load so patience is a must-have virtue while explaining some things in life. Contrariwise, there are people in this world who just refuse truth. They choose to stay in the dark, reject truth, and become obstinate in the dark places they’ve carved out for themselves because they love darkness more than light.
The latter is the place Mr. Young built around himself. His tower of lies became impregnable; for both him, and those who believed him.
Pray for those who still believe these lies (my own mother is a good example of this), and for those who will be listening to the General Conference this weekend instead of opening their Bibles to read about the awesome miracles performed.
The amazing thing about the Lord is how He changes lives – if you’re a believer, you know what this means! Reading about the 5,000 He fed and the prophecies He fulfilled, to the changed lives of everyone that’s called out His name…what a glorious event to rest our wearied minds upon!
Now unto the Lamb Who sits on the throne
Be glory and honor and praise…
For today take some serious time out of your day to think upon the price that was paid and how God foreordained His Son to be the unblemished Lamb to be sacrificed.
