“Evidences and Reconciliations”, pg. 149; “Every person must decide for himself, on the basis of the evidence produced, which of these three
opinions as to the age of the earth, before Adam, seems most reasonable to him, whether (1) six days, or (2) six thousand years, or (3) may millions of years. Clearly it does not matter to one’s daily welfare or ultimate salvation which view he adopts, except that every Latter-day saint must seek and cherish truth above all else.” — John A. Widtsoe
Isaiah 45:12; “For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else. 19 I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.”
Mormon teachings like this one today is what hurts my heart. They throw ‘little’ things in that initially don’t seem like a big deal, but long-term they lead to disaster for mankind.
As Isaiah rightly pointed out, God hasn’t kept anything in the dark and has told us repeatedly that he’s the Creator and He performed all this in six days. Not more than six days and not less than six days. If it had been anything other than that, He would’ve told us.
One thing I’ve learned as a Christian is how I can always believe what He’s said in His word and have found it’s trustworthy enough to use it in research on every topic I can think of.
Mr. Widstoe’s teaching is false, false, false, false, false! It’s another ruse for the Mormon so they employ to trick them into not trusting the Bible. I know this from firsthand experience. I grew up in Utah Mormonism and believed in evolution to the very core. It didn’t take long after becoming a Christian to figure out just how wrong I was!
