Journal of Discourses 8:207-209; “If we yield ourselves servants to obey the principles that hold us in existence, it gives to us our exaltation, and
glorifies us with the Gods, and puts all things under our feet. What a glorious law that is! There is nothing here, except the sin within us, that repels this law. Trample every feeling that is opposed to this law under your feet…
Many of the sisters grieve because they are not blessed with offspring. You will see the time when you will have millions of children around you. If you are faithful to your covenants, you will become mothers of nations. You will become Eves to earths like this; and when you have assisted in peopling one earth there are millions of earths still in the course of creation.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 14, 1860
Mark 10:30; “But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.”
There are a number of issues we want to address in Mr. Young’s teaching today so let’s get started! The reason we’ve brought this sermon to light is because of the hold that it still has on Mormons even today, some 150+ years later…
1.There is no other god outside of the One True God of the Bible – Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10, 44:6
2.We will not be exalted to godhood status in the end and to believe otherwise is blasphemous. Matthew 23:12
3.Mormons have historically placed a heavy, not to mention undue emphasis on the importance of having kids. This isn’t biblical. There is no sin against being childless or single during a lifespan. Matthew 19:12
4.Jesus lived a sinless, perfect life, and fulfilled the Law. During that time He wasn’t married, nor did He have kids. Matthew 5:17
5.Emulating, or having a desire to become like Eve is odd don’t you think? She and Adam were tossed from Eden because of their rebellion. Why would you want to be like her? Genesis 3:23
