The Words of Joseph Smith, p. 244; “I bear record this morning that all the combined powers of earth & hell shall not over come this boy.—” – Joseph Smith, The Contemporary Accounts of the Nauvoo Discourses of the Prophet Joseph
Isaiah 2:17-18; “And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. 18 And the idols he shall utterly abolish.”
There are times when I don’t know whether to laugh, or cry about some of the things said by Joseph Smith. People say he was a charismatic man, but it seems his flamboyant ways far outweighed any charm he may have exhibited.
Smith made the comments seen here at the same August 1843 sermon where he said the Holy Ghost was in probation and could come out if and when, he passed through all the tests of being righteous. If he (the HG) performed correctly, he too, could move on, and go through the same tests of life to earn godhood status Jesus went through.
We found it interesting (eye-roll) members of the Mormon godhead had to prove their worthiness, but Smith was too strong to be overcome even by the evil forces of hell. There was no proof to his self proclamation, just a statement made as if it was a well known fact. You’ll want to note Smith was killed less than a year later (June 1844), but the Mormon godhead is still putzin’ right along in the 21st century.
Like Moroni who’s yet to achieve godhood status, we’re wondering why it’s taken so long for the Mormon Holy Ghost to gain a body… What are the requirements for him to achieve an exalted status?
