Hebrews 1:1-2 “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds”.
If you visited the front page of the LDS website earlier this week. you couldn’t have missed the obvious. The Church has brought new meaning to ‘Follow the Prophets’ with their latest in-house ad campaign.
The upper left corner shows a picture of an elderly man (Thomas Monson) who looks like he couldn’t harm a fly. On the bottom right is another seemingly innocuous image; this time it’s someone holding a smart-phone.
By clicking on the phone image, you’re directed to their subscription page where you can receive updates from the leader of your choosing, and on the platform of your choice, be it Twitter, Facebook, e-mail, etc.
One noteworthy item on the subscription page got us to wondering about their ‘inspired’ leaders. The caption at the bottom of the page reads –
‘ABOUT GENERAL CONFERENCE
General conferences are the semiannual worldwide gatherings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Church members gather to receive guidance and encouragement from Church leaders about gospel living based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.’
When was the last time any of their leaders received a revelation from God? According to Mormonism, a true church must have prophets who prophesy. See ‘Point #13’ in article 16 Points of a True Church. We haven’t heard a new prophecy from their pulpit since 1978. Almost 40 years is a long time for God to be silent in a church proclaiming God talks to them all the time.
What the unsuspecting may not know, is how the phrase ‘follow the prophet’ is a well known Mormon mantra used repeatedly to remind members if they want true salvation, they must obey their leaders. You can read a long list of some of past sermons of this genre at Follow the Prophets.
They may think their play-on-words is clever, or cute. In reality, it’s anything but.
Please, remember to pray that God will open the minds of those who listened to this latest General Conference!
With Love in Christ;
