D&C 17:2 “And it is by your faith that you shall obtain a view of them, even by that faith which was had by the prophets of old.”
1 Timothy 4:7 “But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.”
Oh beloved, remember what our Lord has already told us in His word!
2 Timothy 3:15; “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
If the plates were real, why would it take faith to see them?
Comparing a false hope in something that doesn’t exist to the promise God made of the coming Messiah is totally outrageous!
The intro of D&C 17 provides the following info about this prophecy ~
‘Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer, and Martin Harris, at Fayette, New York, June 1829, prior to their viewing the engraved plates that contained the Book of Mormon record. Joseph and his scribe, Oliver Cowdery, had learned from the translation of the Book of Mormon plates that three special witnesses would be designated…’
As it turned out, all three only saw the plates with their ‘spiritual eyes’. They never did hold, or see any physical plates at all. You can read about their experience at ‘What the Witnesses Witnessed‘.
We’re wondering…what purpose does D&C 17 serve today?
Pray for those who believe Joe Smith’s lies, and for Jesus to intervene!

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine (Bible), but after their own lust, shall they heap to themselves teachers (JS), having itching ears. And they shall turn away from the truth and shall be turned into fables (going from the Bible to teachings of JS).(2 Timothy 4:3,4): “But though we or any angel (Moroni) from heaven, preach any other gospel (BOM) unto you than that which we (Paul, Silas) have preached unto you,let him be accursed (Galatians 1:8). If the followers of Joseph Smith had read their Bibles, they would have immediately been put off by Joseph Smith. This why scripture reading is so important
