Doctrine and Covenants 128:20 “And again, what do we hear? Glad tidings from Cumorah! Moroni, an angel from heaven, declaring the fulfilment of the prophets—the book to be revealed. A voice of the Lord in the wilderness of Fayette, Seneca county, declaring the three witnesses to bear record of the book! The voice of Michael on the banks of the Susquehanna, detecting the devil when he appeared as an angel of light! The voice of Peter, James, and John in the wilderness between Harmony, Susquehanna county, and Colesville, Broome county, on the Susquehanna river, declaring themselves as possessing the keys of the kingdom, and of the dispensation of the fulness of times!”
1976 Doctrine and Covenants Intro, 3rd Paragraph; “This took place in the early spring of 1820. In September, 1823, and at later times, Joseph Smith received visitations from Moroni, an angel of light, who revealed the resting place of the ancient record from which The Book of Mormon was afterward translated”.
2 Corinthians 11:14; “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”
After I left Mormonism it didn’t take long to figure out just how conniving Smith was. Many of his actions were shrouded in secrecy and yet his mocking of God is blatantly obvious once you put the pieces together.
The first few years of discovery were brutal as they are for everyone who leaves the Church. Realizing the level of animosity Smith must’ve had in his heart was nothing short of shocking as it never occurred to me that he was that type of person and that brings us to our text today.
This has to be one of the very worst things in the teachings/writings of Mormonism.
Not long after I left I came across the nonsense in the D&C revealing that Moroni was an angel of light. A sick feeling in the pit of my stomach came over me as thoughts of what the Bible says came rushing to the forefront of my mind. After putting it side-by-side with Joseph Smith’s story of an ‘angel’ who visited three times in one night, the story of Peter denying Jesus three times before daybreak and Paul’s warning in second Corinthians, I was left with no doubt that Moroni the beloved angel that sits atop every Mormon temple, was a glorified version of Satan. And this is what Hinckley said represented the Mormon gospel…ugh…
Today I’m convinced Smith was taunting people. He proclaimed he loved God yet we find numerous ‘incidents’ where he obviously didn’t follow Him, nor honor Him in word and deed. You can read about Smith’s other experiences in our article Moroni the Angel of Light.
In all there are at least four Mormon references where Smith spoke about an angel of light. Twice he is identified as Moroni and twice as the devil.
“But though we or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel (RESTORED GOSPEL) unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed (Galatians 1:8).” But I certify unto you, brethren, that the gospel which I have preached of , is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither I was I taught it, but by revelation of Jesus Christ.” (Galatians 1:11,12). Notice, the gospel Paul is talking about was received by revelation of Jesus Christ, not Moroni or any other angelic being. Joseph Smith was an enthusiastic treasure hunter, glass looker, divining rod user. Claiming to find the plates buried on a hillside and then looking at peep stones for the translation of the plates fits perfectly with JS’s profile as a con man
In the LDS Church history the angel Moroni visited Joseph Smith three times in the night of 21 – 22 September, 1823,and again during the day of the 22nd September and each year at the same time until the 22nd September 1827. The date 21 – 22nd September is significant in occult lore and fits with Smith’s occult beliefs. It is the Autumnal Equinox and believers in the occult expect to see visions during the period. In the first edition of the POGP 1851, vs 41 Smith uses the name ‘Nephi’ for the visiting angel. The ‘Times & Seasons’ ( 1842 ) also gives the name ‘Nephi’ for visiting angel.
It has become so interesting to me, an ex-ldser, that they display Moroni on the tops of all their temples but they are loathe to include a cross anywhere. That sums the church up nicely.
Well said Soldiermp and Bill!!! And to Sandra…The LDS church doesn’t believe Christ’s FINISHED work on the cross was sufficient. Therefore, it can’t be Christ’s true church. Sadly, it’s an “angel of light” (Satan), who represents their church.
So heartbreaking, Melissa
Absolutely…….it is really sad.
Being a member of the church if Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints this only proves all the more that this church is true. If it weren’t, satan wouldn’t try to tear it down so much. I strongly suggest that anyone who comes onto this page look for reliable resources on lds.org if you have questions about any of this 🙂
As a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I know that this church is true and this website only proves it even more. Satan wouldn’t try to tear down something that was false. Go to LDS.org if you have concerns or questions after looking at this page:)
When a member of the Mormon Church is faced with criticism of the history and doctrine of the Church the default position is ‘I know that the Church is true’. The members of the Church don’t know why they declare ‘I know the Church is true’ other than the declaration is a core condition of membership of the Mormon Church. When a person declares ‘I know the Church is true’ such declaration requires no accountability and no understanding. From the outset of the Mormon Church, Joseph Smith was not concerned to account for himself, likewise the members of the Mormon Church are not concerned to account for themselves when it comes to the belief and practice of the Church. Where there is evidence, no one speaks of faith. We only speak of faith when we wish to substitute emotion for evidence. Smith said his ‘Book of Mormon’ is a history and by definition it must be based on evidence. There is no evidence to substantiate any claims in Smith’s ‘Book of Mormon’. Smith’s target audience ‘The Lamanites’ do not exist. Smith’s book is absurd. Smith’s book was written for an audience in America in 1830 and his book needs to remain there.
Excellent, excellent, excellent.
Dear Believing Mormons who commented on this post. When your church starts including maps in the BofM, then it may come to pass that some credibility is possible. Unfortunately, all these years later no one in SLC can figure out where the events of the book took place. I submit that is because they didn’t. When will the church have a (for profit) tour of all the areas where Nephi and his ilk traversed? Why doesn’t the church unearth all the buried goodies left behind in the final war? I submit it is because there was no war and no goodies. The Bible does not have these problems. I used to believe but God, in His mercy, opened my eyes.
