Last week we looked at a speech by D. Todd Christofferson from the Church’s recent Mission Leader’s conference. Another speech at the same event is our topic today – this time around we’re checking out what Henry Eyring had to say. For the sake of brevity we’re only looking at a couple of things that were glaringly wrong. To read their announcement in full, see their newsroom link at 2019 New Mission Leadership Seminar.
Here’s a few questions/concerns we have about this –
“Speaking Tuesday morning, June 25, at the 2019 New Mission Leadership Seminar held in the Provo Missionary Training Center, he [Henry Eyring] emphasized that the new mission leaders are called by the Savior “to help Him in His rescue mission,” adding “your missionaries, all of them, are called to help.”
To imply, or even think the Good Lord needs anything, much less a missionary’s help, is placing oneself on the same level as God.
Acts 17:25 “Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things”.
Moreover, it is by Jesus’ name alone that we’re saved. Acts 4:12.
“You will help them choose to do right,” President Eyring said. “They must choose for themselves to invite people to come unto Christ. They will not convert people, but they will help those people choose to exercise faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement and to repent of their sins. Your missionaries will then help them choose through faith to be baptized by priesthood authority.
“After new members have been baptized your missionaries will help them want to obey the command ‘receive ye the Holy Ghost.’ (John 20:22).”
“And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost”.
The Bible says nothing about needing priesthood authority, and the use of this verse would indicate they approve of Pentecost, which they don’t.
“Your missionaries will have helped them to make that choice by giving them experiences when the Spirit has touched and warmed their hearts. And those members will then choose to endure, being faithful to their covenants, because your loving missionaries will have helped them feel joy in keeping commitments with God.”
Again, this is very sad how the Church has twisted the meaning of what it is to ask the Lord into your life because you’ve accepted Him as Lord and Savior of everything.
Teaching them to be happy because they were baptized as Jesus directed is akin to patting them on the head as you would a dog because he earned a doggie biscuit for sitting.
If/when someone feels anything, it’s from relief in knowing your struggles are over!
This was nothing but a gross display of pride. It’s even more apparent in the last thing he said…
“The Lord will magnify your power to see with the eyes of faith,” he said. “You will be able to see people as children of God more clearly than you ever have before”
Please, pray for them won’t you?
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
