Today we’re looking at the confusion Joe Smith caused when he attempted to rewrite God’s perfect, holy word. As you’ll see in the Church’s history below, chaos ruled. If he had embraced truth, he would’ve rejoiced over Isaiah 40:8 —
“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: But the word of our God shall stand for ever.”
Instead, Mr. Smith claimed God revealed to him, and Sidney Rigdon in 1832 they needed to focus on rewriting the Bible.
January 10, 1832
Doctrine and Covenants 73:3-4 “Now, verily I say unto you my servants, Joseph Smith, Jun., and Sidney Rigdon, saith the Lord, it is expedient to translate again; 4 And, inasmuch as it is practicable, to preach in the regions round about until conference; and after that it is expedient to continue the work of translation until it be finished.” — HC 1:241-242
One year later, on February 22, 1833, Joseph Smith declared they had accomplished what God commissioned them to do.
History of the Church 1:324 “Revision of the New Testament Completed. I completed the translation and review of the New Testament, on the 2nd of February, 1833 and sealed it up no more to be opened till it arrived in Zion.” [emp. added]
But, 4+ months later, we see a different story unfolding…
July 2, 1833
History of the Church 1:368-369 “We this day finished the translating of the Scriptures, for which we returned gratitude to our Heavenly Father … I, Sydney, write this in great haste…Having finished the translation of the Bible, a few hours since…” [emp. added]
You can read an exhaustive list of reasons why Smith didn’t accomplish what he said he did in the footnotes of our first reference in History of the Church.
Most unfortunately, the glaring problem is the lack of an apology for lying that he indeed finished the translation. And worse yet is the lack of an apology for changing God’s infallible word.
Once again, Joseph Smith proved himself to be a false prophet. One has to wonder how many of these it will take for the Mormon people to denounce his lies.
Come alongside us and pray they’ll continue to leave for the Real Jesus of the Bible!
With Love in Christ;

“I warn everybody who hears the prophecy of this scroll (God’s Words): If anyone should add to them, God will to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And of anyone should takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy Ghost which are described in this scroll.”( Revelations 22:18,19)
“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the One who called you to live in the Grace of Christ and are TURNING TO A DIFFIDENT GOSPEL, which in reality IS NO GOSPEL AT ALL. Evidently, some people are THROWING YOU INTO CONFUSION and are trying to pervert the Gospel of Christ, But even if we or any ANGEL FROM HEAVEN (Moroni), should preach another gospel to you, let them be under God’s curse.” (Galatians 1::6-8)
Personally, I believe that Moroni, if he really came to Joseph in a vision, was nothing more than an angel of darkness, coming to influence Joe Smith enough to create a different gospel other than the gospel we have been taught.
Great minds think alike :oD. I wrote this same stuff back in December 2018.
