Ensign, ‘What Every Elder Should Know, and Every Sister As Well,’ February 1993 “There are some things about the priesthood that every elder should know if he is to understand how the Church is governed. … There are principles and precepts and rules which are often overlooked and seldom taught. Some of these are found in the scriptures, others in the handbooks. Some of them are not found in either. They are found in the Church. You might call them traditions, but they are more than that. They are revelations which came when the brethren of the past assembled themselves, agreed upon his word, and offered their prayers of faith.” — Boyd K. Packer
Ephesians 4:14 “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive”.
Mr. Packer’s talk has to be one of the scariest things I’ve read in Mormon literature. Shame on him, and the Church, for advocating such a thing.
If you’re LDS, we have a question for you.
Everyone knows when you make large purchases, there’s a dotted line that must be signed. You as a consumer will read over the contract before you sign to ensure you know what you’re getting into, and how much it’s going to cost. Every little detail should be in the contract, right?
If you’re so willing to sign a contract for something, doesn’t it stand to reason you should know what you’re getting into when you become a member of a church? Why would it be okay to NOT know what they expect? What if their interpretation of an unwritten tradition contradicts their scripture?
What if it contradicts what God has said in His word?
According to Mr. Packer’s words, this gives the Church a license to do whatever they want.
Certainly, a material object isn’t as valuable as your soul!
This is nothing but a morbid game of hide and seek where church members always lose.
We pray Mr. Packer’s talk serves as a wake-up call to everyone in the Church, and those thinking about joining! Obviously, your very life depends upon it!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
Elder Packer admits to a group of elders or Priesthood holders that :”there are certain gospel principles and precepts that the church has forgotten to reach them or that some of them may have forgotten. It seems to me that old Boyd has also admitted that the church keeps certain secrets from it’s member, things not to be discussed or taught to it;’s members
“For here is nothing hidden that will not disclosed and nothing concealed that will not be brought out into the open.” (LUKE *:17)
“What you have said in the darkness will be heard in the daylight and what you have whispered in the ear, will be proclaimed from the rooftops.”(Luke 12:3)
:God reveals deep and secret things, He know what lies in darkness and light dwells with him,” (Daniel 2:22)
Right on! Soldiermp… Also Jesus is now our High Priest. Hebrews 7:23 says “Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood”. So, think about this if you’re a Mormon priesthood holder, or believe in this DIY priesthood…you are NOT eternal so how can anyone but Jesus hold the Melchizedek Priesthood?
Continued… Hebrews 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time PAST to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sin, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on High, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they”.
So, God has now spoken to us through His Son. No need for prophets or a Priesthood.
