Journal of Discourses 7:17 “We read in the Bible that the Lord told Joshua to sanctify Israel; for, says he, “there is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel.” And on the morrow they sanctified themselves by stoning to death Achan … Thus all Israel put to death the transgressor, and sanctified themselves before the Lord.
Would it not be an excellent course to pursue with this people, to sanctify them to the fullest extent of the word? … I think it would be an excellent thing for this people to be sanctified from such persons, and have them cleansed from our midst, by making an atonement. …
Our holy religion is to purify, purge, cleanse, and sanctify this people. We care not what people think or say about our course in this respect; it is our religion, and we will not have corruption where we dwell, if we can help it.” — Heber C. Kimball, Great Salt Lake City, July 16, 1854.
Matthew 6:24 “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
Romans 12:19 “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”
As an FYI, Kimball delivered this speech 3 yrs. before the Mountain Meadows Massacre. It didn’t take long for the ‘Saints’ to invoke their version of sanctification while running unchecked by the Feds. The Rocky Mountains held their secrets because no one was around to keep them in line.
Besides all that, the God of the Bible never gives permission to annihilate those you don’t agree with. This isn’t OT times!

Years ago I actually had someone ask me if I would kill if God told me to. I said no, because God already told me not to kill. Then they said “so you’d disobey God?” I said no God would not ask me to intentionally kill someone. I already know it wouldn’t be God asking me to kill. And they kept asking me the same question different ways, trying to get me to say I would kill for God…it didn’t work. And this was from a Christian, very wierd.
Melissa –
that is weird… hmmm…
Sorry, I should clarify…the reason I brought up that conversation, is because some might try and justify Mountains Meadow Massacre, by saying, maybe they were commanded by God to kill those people. And I again say NO!!! God would not tell someone to steal a car or commit adultery, because He already commanded us not to.
