‘…while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.’ Luke 24:51
3 Nephi 18:38-39 “And it came to pass that when Jesus had touched them all, there came a cloud and overshadowed the multitude that they could not see Jesus. 39 And while they were overshadowed, he departed from them, and ascended into heaven. And the disciples saw and did bear record that he ascended again into heaven.”
3 Nephi 19:1 “And now it came to pass that when Jesus had ascended into heaven, the multitude did disperse, and every man did take his wife and his children and did return to his own home.”
Here’s what the Bible says –
Acts 1:2, 9-10 “Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel”.
Also see the following verses –
Mark 16:14-19 “Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.”
Luke 24:51 “…while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.”
As you can see, there are a few discrepancies between the two sources of information.
The BoM claims no one saw Jesus ascend into heaven because their view was obscured. It also claims this took place when a multitude of people were present.
The Bible tells us His ascension was witnessed by His eleven disciples – hardly a multitude. Furthermore, it was witnessed while they were in Bethany, and there’s no mention of clouds obscuring their view!
Be sure to share this information with a Mormon. Also ask how the BoM witnesses could testify about Jesus’ ascension if they didn’t actually see it?
