Ensign, “To Be Learned Is Good If . . .”, November 1992, p. 71 “There are some among us now who have not been regularly ordained by the heads of the Church and who tell of impending political and economic chaos, the end of the world – something of the “sky is falling, chicken licken” of the fables. They are misleading members to gather to colonies or cults.
Those deceivers say that the Brethren do not know what is going on in the world or that the Brethren approve of their teaching but do not wish to speak of it over the pulpit. Neither is true. The Brethren, by virtue of traveling constantly everywhere on earth, certainly know what is going on, and by virtue of prophetic insight are able to read the signs of the times.
Do not be deceived by them – those deceivers. If there is to be any gathering, it will be announced by those who have been regularly ordained and who are known to the Church to have authority. Come away from any others. Follow your leaders who have been duly ordained and have been publicly sustained, and you will not be led astray.” — Boyd K. Packer
1 Corinthians 3:19 “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.”
1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”
Mr. Packer’s ‘worldly wisdom’ is nothing but clanging bells. He obviously wanted to exert his self-proclaimed authority on people like my mother who will believe everything he says. It’s heartbreaking to know this happens as I was also reminded recently of young members in the heart of Utah who live by every word of their leaders.
Extensive travel around the world doesn’t always mean you know what’s going on spiritually and I’m living proof. Kirk and I put over 100,000 miles on our car in less than three years while living in Germany and all that traveling around Europe doesn’t include the number of miles, I put on the USO tour bus I drove around when not using my car.
At the time I couldn’t have found my way out of a spiritual wet paper bag. It doesn’t mean the Lord wasn’t speaking to me – He was! The house of cards known as Mormonism was crashing down around me with each group of tourists I led around the ‘Land of Luther’.
The countless crosses dotting the skies of Europe and other places around the world has drowned out voices of Utah’s self-appointed leaders with overwhelming evidence God hadn’t left mankind alone. Living across the street from a church with a huge white cross also provided me with hours of comparing my heritage to what became impossible to ignore.
If you have the opportunity and in a loving manner, remind a Mormon of God’s faithfulness to His creation. People like Luther, Knox, Hus, Tyndale, and Calvin are just a few people who the Lord utilized in making sure the gates of hell wouldn’t prevail. Matthew 16:18. See Ligonier Ministries for more info.
Moreover beloved, please, don’t forget to always pray for Mormons in and out of Utah!
With Love in Christ –—
Michelle
