September 5 – Gainsaying Canon. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
_____
Newly out of the Church I was still cringing, and wanted to reject the message whenever I heard someone tell me I was a sinner. That phrase just isn’t part of the Mormon vernacular, and it sounded like a total insult.
Rightly so!
However, Mormons don’t see themselves as sinners so be sure to gently explain that indeed they are, just as everyone else is in this world. Make sure you also point out the discrepancies in their own canon which adds even more confusion to the mix.
The Apostle John said when we don’t admit we’re sinners, we’re just fooling ourselves – 1 John 1:8.
We can see with all the contradictory doctrines, Joe Smith wanted nothing more than to confuse people so they wouldn’t know the Lord.

1 Nephi 20:8 “Yea, and thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time thine ear was not opened; for I knew that thou wouldst deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb.”
D&C 29:47 “Wherefore, they cannot sin, for power is not given unto Satan to tempt little children, until they begin to become accountable before me.”
[…] Gainsaying Canon […]
If you don’t understand the concept of sin, you can’t understand the concept of salvation.
On our best day we fall so incredibly short. But the GOOD NEWS is…. Romans 5:8 says “But God commendeth His love towards us, in that, WHILE we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Did you catch that??? He died for sinners, not perfect people. He will pick you up out of the gutter, just as you are. He will meet you where you are. You don’t have to sit in front of a sinful man (bishop) to prove yourself “worthy” for God’s grace. But you first have to admit you’re a sinner and in need of a Savior. If we could be perfect before God on our own, Jesus didn’t have to die.
amen to that!!!
