October 31 — What goes through your mind when you see this picture and read its accompanying quote?
“Our ancestors need us as we need them. There are many yet waiting to be found and taken to the temple for their sacred linking ordinances to be fulfilled.” Beki Tobiasson
When I first saw this, I felt a mixture of sadness and disgust. Quotes like this tell Mormons they can be the savior their ancestors need for their salvation. The cross and Jesus are just a portion of what they believe they need to eventually reach exaltation, which is their version of eternal life.
They believe that it always goes back to the Temple and the work they do there, so their ancestors can have a chance to live in the Celestial Kingdom with their god, so long as they accept the work that was done for them by proxy on their behalf in the Temple.
I know it sounds very convoluted, confusing, and completely contrary to what we learn from scripture, but this is what Mormons are taught.
Let’s take a look at who God has said is the one we need to look to for salvation.
John 14:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”
My heart breaks for those who are caught up in the lies of Mormonism. It’s appalling to me that they want to remove the need for Jesus in the lives of their church members. Jesus is the only one we should look to for our salvation. We should always preach Christ and the work he did for us. By no other name or way will anyone be truly saved.
In Christ
