October 19 — Today we’re looking at part of a talk Jeffrey Holland gave at General Conference. We found no less than eight major problems. You can find the part we’re looking at on the Church’s News Room site at Elder Jeffrey R. Holland: ‘And Now I See’. To read his talk in full see General Conference, ‘And Now I See,’ October 2025.
1.Jesus Christ’s healing of a blind man in John 9 was evidence of God’s power.
Mr. Holland was right. It’s a shame he lies to people that Jesus had this power because He is God.
2.The works of God are manifest through ordinances. “When we participate in any of the ordinances of the gospel and honor the corresponding covenants, we come to know the Savior much more personally.”
This is a lie. Ordinances had nothing to do with the way God works.
3.Similar to how the blind man was healed with unlikely ingredients, God can bless His children by whatever method He chooses.
Holland’s right. God can bless people with whatever methods He chooses
4.“How easy it is for us to dismiss the source of our redemption because the ingredients and the instruments seem embarrassingly plain.”
Right again. Too bad they make things so complicated! The source of our redemption is Christ Jesus and Him crucified. It’s not through our own works as it says in Ephesians 2:8-9.
5.The holy priesthood follows an unbroken sequence back to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mr. Holland is almost sounding biblical. The problem with his comment is that Jesus is the ONLY ONE that holds the priesthood.
6.Another “marvelous evidence” of the Church’s truthfulness is the blessings and covenants extended to deceased kindred.
This is obviously a huge lie.
The Bible says that once you’re dead that’s it and there are no baptisms for the dead.
2 Corinthians 6:2, 1 Corinthians 15:29.
7.The Book of Mormon is a rod of safety for the soul, a light of revelation and illumination of the path “when mists of darkness come and surely they have and surely they will.”
Mr. Holland lied! The BoM is ‘another gospel’ delivered by Moroni who is an angel of light. Furthermore, the Bible tells us that His word is a light unto our path.
Galatians 1:6-8, Psalm 119:105.
8.The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is “a true restoration of the New Testament church and more, because I could not deny the evidence of that Restoration, particularly the spiritual evidence of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, the very word of God itself.”
Mr. Holland lied but what’s interesting about his comment is when he said, ‘it’s a true restoration and more’.
How can it be a true restoration if there’s more???
Please pray for these people to stop and think about what they’re spiritually ingesting!
With Love in Christ —
