December 3 — Today we’re looking at a few things in an article, Glad Tidings of Great Joy, written by LDS President Dallin Oaks. You can read the article in full at the link provided. For the sake of time, we’re limiting this to just a few glaring problems.
After a lengthy explanation telling readers you can find cathedrals worldwide honoring the Savior he mentioned these included the 200+ Mormon temples. He also reminded readers there’s ‘nothing new’ about the timeless story because it had been told since the days of Adam.
He then gave his own guess for the meaning of three events that took place leading up to the birth of the Savior. To say that we were surprised at his explanation of the events would be an understatement.
1.The first event was about the shepherds on the hills by Bethlehem…
Oaks stated ‘…the shepherds were probably chosen to receive these good tidings because they were meek and humble…’.
The shepherds were outcasts, and it had nothing to do with them being humble.
2.The second announcement of the birth of the Messiah was in the temple in Jerusalem to two holy workers (Simeon and Anna) whose godly lives qualified them to receive the witness of the Holy Ghost. There was nothing about the fact their presence was prophesied years beforehand.
See links for the truth about Simeon and Anna.
3.The third group consisted of the Wise Men.
Oaks stated “A third group learned of this remarkable birth. The Bible, as slightly improved by Joseph Smith, reports:
These Wise Men were of another land and culture … In addition, there may have been another purpose. The value of the gold and other gifts the Wise Men presented may have helped Mary and Joseph to make their hasty journey to Egypt and to remain there to save the Christ child when His life was threatened by the wicked order of King Herod (see Matthew 2:11–16).
Truth: there are significant meanings for each of the gifts the wise men gave to Mary. Several years ago, Melissa and I wrote two articles about the events surrounding Jesus’ birth. Here are the links – Holy Night Events pt. 1 2024, Holy Night Events pt. 2 2024. It’s much more than just the money!
As you can see there’s a lot of maybes in Oaks’ talk. It’s sad that the Mormon people are left with more questions than answers about the birth of Jesus Christ.
Please pray for members of the Church to disregard what this man said and share the info about the birth of Jesus with them!
With Love in Christ —

They should read God’s word instead of listening to the lies of their leaders. Prayers for all Mormons.
M.j.
Amen to that MJ, amen. How I pray they would see the lies and turn to the Lord.
