January 23 – BoM: Filled with Lying Signs and Wonders. Deuteronomy 13:1-3 “If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, 2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

New Era, ‘Questions and Answers, What is the gift of discernment?,’ June 2018
“The scriptures talk about the “discerning of spirits” as a gift of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:10; D&C 46:23). It means “to understand or know something through the power of the Spirit. … It includes perceiving the true character of people and the source and meaning of spiritual manifestations” (Guide to the Scriptures, “Discernment, Gift of,” scriptures.lds.org).
Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has taught that the gift of discernment can help us (1) “detect hidden error and evil in others,” (2) “detect hidden errors and evil in ourselves,” (3) “find and bring forth the good that may be concealed in others,” and (4) “find and bring forth the good that may be concealed in us” (“Quick to Observe,” Ensign, Dec. 2006, 35).” (more…)

Glenn Beck Speaks at American Gospel Celebration

Jude 1:3-4 “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. 4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The other day we received a lovely email from Sadie, she writes –
“I read the article by Melissa Grimes on Glenn Beck and him speaking at Christian Churches and events. I was happy to see a Christian stand up for the truth and state why Mormons are not Christian. They do not believe in the bible, but do use verses to benefit there false religion.
I hope another article can be printed or news released even broader of the recent invite for Glenn Beck to speak at another Christian event.
Pastor John Hagee plans for Beck to speak at the “American Gospel Celebration” Sept. 3rd. I personally emailed and called John Hagee ministires, and also called and emailed the promoters of the event “Premier Festivals”. I wrote stating my disbelief and shock that a “Christian Pastor” would not stand up for truth and allow a false cult, think they are Christians, and allow Glenn Beck to speak.
Please continue to advertise and call out the Christian churches to protect the truth, with gentleness and kindness.
Sincerely,
Sadie”

Internet not Allowed
“Can Ye Feel So Now?”, General Conference October 2012; “The constant portrayal of violence and immorality in music, entertainment, art, and other media in our day-to-day culture is unprecedented. This was dramatically described by a highly respected Baptist theologian when he stated, “The spiritual immune system of an entire civilization has been wounded.
Many who are in a spiritual drought and lack commitment have not necessarily been involved in major sins or transgressions, but they have made unwise choices…Some have immersed themselves in Internet materials that magnify, exaggerate, and, in some cases, invent shortcomings of early Church leaders. Then they draw incorrect conclusions that can affect testimony. Any who have made these choices can repent and be spiritually renewed.” – Quentin L. Cook

Discernment
‘Criticism,’ Latter‑day Saint Student Association fireside in the Salt Lake Tabernacle;
“Criticism is particularly objectionable when it is directed toward Church authorities, general or local. Jude condemns those who ‘speak evil of dignities.’” (Jude 1:8.) Evil speaking of the Lord’s anointed is in a class by itself. It is one thing to depreciate a person who exercises corporate power or even government power. It is quite another thing to criticize or depreciate a person for the performance of an office to which he or she has been called of God. It does not matter that the criticism is true.” – Dallin H. Oaks

Gospel Standards Key to Good Judgment
“Developing Good Judgment and Not Judging Others”, Ensign, May 2010, pg. 105; “A person can never be a good judge without the gospel of Jesus Christ as a reference. The gospel has a long and successful record of guiding people to happiness. Some of the world’s ideas leave mankind adrift to try to define their own standards. Because of this, we hear phrases like ‘a new morality.’ This phrase is deceptive! The standards of morality are eternal and have not changed; neither should we try to discover a new interpretation of them.” – Gregory A. Schwitzer
