Glory of God
Gospel Standards, pg. 160; “We, of course, seek after knowledge, light, and intelligence and to inform ourselves upon all matters of importance. The glory of God, we have been told by the Prophet Joseph, is intelligence; and we desire to gain knowledge and to become as intelligent as we possibly can…—Era, 24:866.” – Heber J. Grant
Hebrews 1:3; “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
Phil 2:9-11; “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
And of course don’t forget 1 Cor 1:22-23; “For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;”
And when you don’t know enough then what? What does this have to do with God’s glory? What about His Son that He allowed to die for us? Why is your intelligence better than Jesus?
Let’s take a very small example to think upon. You’re born, earn a degree, get married, have kids, buy a home, retire…
Which of all those things is your best moment in life? Which of all those experiences are you most proud of and point to? Is it your home? What about your career? I don’t know about you but my crowning achievement is my kids. I’ve traveled the world, have this ministry, own a home, do radio and the list goes on. My children overshadows each of those things.
Now this example is rather poor when weighed against what God has done because He’s well…God of course! As humans it’s the closest example we have available.
So if our children who are the most precious and important to us are the “glory” if you will of our lives then why would our intelligence be God’s glory?
All of the world’s existence points to and has been based upon the preparation of Jesus’ arrival, life, crucifixion and resurrection; our calendars keep time based on His birth. The entire Bible’s message is about Him.
When we toss the Bible we lose our focus of the cross and when that happens we have nothing. The glory of God will prevail regardless of our individual intentions, but how desperate do we want to be in life?
What it means to be a Christ-I-A-N – without Christ – I – AM – NOTHING.
