Joseph Smith’s Prophecies
He got one right!!! It’s not very often I get to report on finding a prophecy of Joseph Smith that he got right, but today I found one. As I was researching quotes of Joseph Smith for a new ex-Mormon I came across the prophecy he gave in Doctrines and Covenants.
D&C 3:4; “For although a man may have many revelations, and have power to do many mighty works, yet if he boasts in his own strength, and sets at naught the counsels of God, and follows after the dictates of his own will and carnal desires, he must fall and incur the vengeance of a just God upon him.”
Joseph gave that prophecy in Harmony, Pennsylvania in July 1828.
Now imagine after all the moving around, being kicked out of one state after another Joseph finds himself in Nauvoo, Illinois just sixteen short years later. While feeling mighty sure of himself he told an audience in May of 1844 that he was better than the apostles and Jesus in holding a church together. We reported on this the other day in Mormon Dilemmas 86.

Sadly enough Smith’s prophecy did indeed come true. He was killed while incarcerated at the Carthage jail just two short months later.
