The Greatness of Joseph Smith?
Life of Joseph the Prophet, pg. 178; “…As Jesus, in the days of his flesh, was the revelator of the Father, so was Joseph the revelator of the Son, in the ministry of his resurrection. Not a minister upon the testimony of apostles given eighteen hundred years ago, but a witness proceeding from Christ in our own day: a special witness to the world of the ministry and resurrection of Jesus: the revelator of the new and everlasting covenant to Israel: the revelator again of God to man, continuing the testimony which Jesus bore of the Father: the messenger of God, proclaiming to mankind a present revelation and a Diving gospel.”
Life of Joseph the Prophet, pg. 178; “…Be it therefore declared unto all that Joseph, to modern times, is as the new testament of Jesus Christ, “who was before preached unto us:” that Jesus concerning whose ministry and resurrection the faith of all Christendom was but as a tradition, handed down through the ages of apostasy, in which the heavens uttered no certain voice.”
Isaiah 2:11; “The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.”
Luke 18:9-14; “And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”
John 12:43; “For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.”
Titus 1:16; “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.”
Typically when people get saved and find Jesus they are humbled beyond what words can express. The verse in Psalm 42:7 always comes to mind when I think of the day I got saved and the gratitude I hold in my heart for what He did for me; deep calls to deep…
I am so grateful for what He did and whenever I think of my place here on earth and heaven I picture myself as sitting at the very back row in a corner of the New Jerusalem with countless others in front of me. I can’t imagine myself in any other way. While I do have every confidence to approach the throne of grace He allows me to go to, I also know I am forever indebted to Him who got me there.
Anything I do here on earth pales in comparison to what He’s done and while I’m grateful for what others have done before me, quite frankly it’s none of my business. My goal in life is to be sure I’m on my way to Jerusalem with Him (Luke 18:31).
Why are the Mormon people so enamored with Joseph Smith? I know with all that I am they love Jesus, but they’ve not been taught to properly show their adoration to Jesus. Instead Mormons are led to believe their adoration and gratitude needs to be shown for Smith. Smith isn’t God and Smith isn’t the person that will either save or condemn them come judgment day.
Unfortunately they’ve also been tricked into believing their individual testimony isn’t complete unless it includes their confession that Smith came from God and is a true prophet of God. Those aren’t the words God wants to hear coming from your lips when you’re standing in front of Him. It’s about Jesus, not Joseph!
