Where is God’s Power?
Aaronic Priesthood, pg. 116 by Oscar McConkie it says; “There must be power; that is, there must be priesthood. Where God’s power is manifest, there is the church and kingdom of God on earth. Where his power is not found, there the church and kingdom is not. Therefore, where the priesthood is, there is the church and kingdom of God.”
Now there are several items of note within that passage to pay attention to.
1 – Power and the priesthood. The priesthood is no longer here on earth as Jesus took it with Him to heaven when He was resurrected. Jesus has sole proprietorship to all sanctification as stated in:
Hebrews 10:10-14; “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.”
2 – The “power” that we receive as Christians comes directly from God and is found in the gospel as Paul tells us in his epistle to the Christians in Rome –
Romans 1:16-17 says;
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
3 – The Kingdom of God is already here and has been here for 2,000 years because it was delivered to us by Jesus Christ. You can read of its arrival in
Matt. 4:17 when Jesus told people to repent for the kingdom of heaven was at hand, and take special notice of what Daniel said in 2:44;
“And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.”
