Chronology of the Church’s Name
3 Nephi 27:8; “And how be it my church save it be called in my name? For if a church be called in Moses’ name then it be Moses’ church; or if it be called in the name of a man then it be the church of a man; but if it be called in my name then it is my church, if it so be that they are built upon my gospel.”
Matthew 16:18; “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
While the Church spent a fair amount of time and energy coming up with a name for itself and changing it around a few times, one thing always remained the same. God’s word. Jesus promised us the gates of hell wouldn’t prevail against HIS church and true to His word, His bride exists even today!
If the name of the Church was inspired of God, why didn’t they just name themselves this in the beginning? Why the evolving name for the “only true church on the face of the earth”?
