Nephi and Matthew
3 Nephi 14:6; “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.”
Matthew 7:6; “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.”
The gospel of Matthew was written circa 60-65 AD.
3rd Nephi was written circa 31 AD.
Nephi didn’t seem to have any discriminatory preferences for those he plagiarized. Once again we see how he’s chosen to use the words of others to inspire his reading audience. While one may say that his plagiarism of Peter in chapter seven may have been readily available to him through the book of Proverbs, this time around there’s really no excuse!
How did Nephi have access to Matthew’s writings? The only common denominator between these two people is Joseph Smith.
Ask your LDS friend how Nephi could’ve done this before Matthew said these words and does it seem strange to them that Nephi uses the same phrases/words of many people in the Bible before they said them. Remind them that their opinion matters to you!
