The Self-Existent God of the Universe
The First 2000 Years, p. 355; “The universe is filled with vast numbers of intelligences, and we further learn that Elohim is God simply because all of these intelligences honor and sustain him as such…if He should ever do anything to violate the confidence or “sense of justice” of these intelligences, they would promptly withdraw their support, and the “power” of God would disintegrate. He would cease to be God.” – W. Cleon Skousen, Former BYU Professor
Isaiah 44:24; “Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself.”
Romans 11:33-36; “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! 34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his ounselor? 35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? 36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory forever. Amen.”
God has No Origin
He wasn’t created and wasn’t on a council of other gods. He doesn’t have to act a certain way so that He doesn’t upset the sensibilities of others. He’s self existent and operates independently of everything!
God Names Himself, I AM
In Exodus 3:14 God told Moses to tell people “I AM has sent me to you”. I AM. This name, I AM, is God’s name, Jehovah or Adonai. It literally means the unchanging, eternal, self-existent God.
God certainly isn’t dependent upon the gratitude or good behavior of creation! He created everything in spite of itself, just as Jesus hung on the cross at Calvary. He hung there regardless of whether or not you’d accept Him as the perfect sacrifice because this act is what God deemed necessary, not us!
If God existed or acted on things in this manner He’d be no God at all. He’d be like the power of Asherah the Israelites would depend on. Her influence was known in the days of before Christ, but who knows of her now? Practically no one. We read about her in history books and that’s the extent of her.
The same can be said of Mulek. He was a very popular god in the days of the Ammonites, but that has passed as well. These gods were but a vapor in the scheme of things, yet the Great I AM is still here, He’s still existing just as He did in the days of Moses!
