Temple or Temples?
Alma 16:13; “And Alma and Amulek went forth preaching repentance to the people in their temples, and in their sanctuaries, and also in their synagogues, which were built after the manner of the Jews.”
There have been three historical temples in succession that we see in Israel’s history; Solomon, Zerubabel and Herod. Most historians and Jews count Zerubabel’s and Herod’s temple as one since Herod simply rebuilt Zerubabel’s temple.
Only one temple at a time was built. There was never more than one temple built or used at a time, in fact even though Jeroboam tried to cause confusion and rivalries between the northern and southern kingdoms by setting up separate sanctuaries, the end result didn’t pan out for him.
Ask your Mormon friend why Alma says they went about preaching repentance in the temples when this isn’t the way Israel worshipped God.
